This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced pharmacist, to join the NHS GGC Alcohol & Drug Recovery Services Central Pharmacy Team and wider established pharmacy workforce.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services manage a system of care for individuals with problem drug and alcohol use in the largest health board in Scotland. The health board includes some of the most deprived areas in the UK, with the highest prevalence of problem drug use and alcohol related harms. The provision of accessible, high quality and recovery orientated services are an important component of addressing public health needs and tackling health inequalities. Treatment, care and support for drug and alcohol use is delivered through integrated working between health and social care services. As well as being one of the largest and most dynamic drug and alcohol treatment service providers in Europe, our services are also at the forefront of service developments in many areas including the innovative Enhanced Drug Treatment Service and service models delivered in partnership with Community Pharmacy.
The post holder will be expected to work at a senior level, making high level clinical and operational decisions. Although the post holder will work as part of Team they will be expected to manage their own workload and work autonomously to develop and implement strategy, policy and best practice. The post holder will be expected to develop the role of pharmaceutical care in relation to problem alcohol and drug use, with a focus on the enhanced GP contract for Shared Care within Glasgow. They will assist the Lead pharmacist to support 283 community pharmacies on all aspects of drug and alcohol use and provide professional support and liaison on pharmacy issues to a wide range of treatment and care services, across the 6 Alcohol and Drug Partnerships (ADPs) and Health and Social Care Partnerships in GGC.
The post holder will play a key role in a brand new Primary Care Facilitation Team (PCFT) for the Glasgow Shared Care Model. This role will involve acting in a liaison role on pharmaceutical issues to bridge the interface between GPs, community pharmacy and wider third sector partners. The post holder will support with the delivery of training to GPs on the pharmacology and prescribing of opioid substitution therapy, alcohol treatment and care, in addition to providing advice to GPs on new models of service delivery and explore options for the implementation of new treatments and prescribing models within primary care settings.
Candidates interested in applying for the post should be able to demonstrate working at a senior pharmacist level, working autonomously, making high level clinical and operational decisions. The post requires a pharmacist with strong interpersonal skills, clinical and organisational skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate with and influence others. The post, albeit part time, requires an individual to participate, when necessary, in a 7 day rota to support the specialist services the NHS GGC ADRS Central Pharmacy Team support.
