Are you a passionate and dedicated Science Teacher looking to make a real impact in the lives of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join a well-established independent school in Totnes, renowned for its outstanding pastoral care and commitment to student success.
About the School:
This independent SEN school is part of a national network of specialist schools and alternative provisions founded by experienced SEN educators. Catering to students aged 11 - 19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other learning challenges, the school offers a holistic, student-centred approach to education.
With state-of-the-art facilities, including fully equipped science labs, food technology rooms, construction workshops and a sports hall, the school provides a dynamic and supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
The Role:
As a Science Teacher, you will play a crucial role in delivering an engaging and adaptive science curriculum that meets the diverse needs of SEN students. Working collaboratively with leadership and support staff, you will foster a positive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment that encourages curiosity, confidence and achievement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver engaging, hands-on science lessons tailored to students with SEN and SEMH needs
* Use creative and differentiated teaching strategies to inspire and motivate learners
* Provide practical learning opportunities using the school’s specialist science facilities
* Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists and SENCOs to develop and implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
* Foster a positive learning environment by managing behaviour effectively and encouraging student participation
* Monitor and assess student progress, offering constructive feedback to support individual learning journeys
About You:
We are looking for a committed and passionate educator with:
* QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent teaching qualification
* Experience teaching science at secondary level, preferably within SEN, SEMH or alternative education settings
* Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students
* A resilient and compassionate approach, dedicated to making a difference in young people’s lives
* A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your teaching career within a SEN setting and inspire the next generation of learners. If you are ready to take on this rewarding role, we would love to hear from you!
