Background
We are looking for two enthusiastic and creative students to lead the development of a new social media platform showcasing inspiring role models within Biomedical Science. As Role Model Platform Coordinators, you will curate content by highlighting students, staff, and external figures, sharing their achievements, backgrounds, and values to inspire the student community. This student-led initiative will require you to collaborate with the Biomedical Science EDI group, Dr. Richard Horniblow, and student experience officers, create engaging multimedia content, and manage platform activity. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in content creation, social media management, and project coordination while making a meaningful impact on the student experience.
Role Summary
Candidates should have a good and first-hand experience of using social media platforms (Instagram) and creating content that is accessible and engaging. You will have regular weekly meetings to discuss updates and posts, but the post will require you to work with the other coordinator and individually. Support and guidance will be provided. The work will be for 5 hours a week over a 13-week period.
Main Duties
* Working with staff, students, and the other coordinator to identify role models from diverse backgrounds within the field of biomedical science.
* Develop, manage, and post content on the platform to ensure consistent engagement and visibility.
* Contact peers and staff to gather stories, interviews, and testimonials for platform content.
* Monitor platform activity and gather feedback to measure engagement and success.
Person Specification
* Knowledge and use of Instagram and how professional pages are curated to fulfil a purpose (which, here, is showcasing biomedical science role models from diverse backgrounds).
* Able to work independently and with the other coordinator to plan and curate content, working with Dr. Richard Horniblow to plan and identify inspirational figures.
* Creative mindset with an interest in content creation, including social media posts, interviews, and storytelling.
* Desirable: Interest in equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives.
* Desirable: Previous involvement in student-led projects, societies, or events.
We value diversity and inclusion at the University of Birmingham and welcome applications from all sections of the community and are open to discussions around all forms of flexible working.

If your application is successful and your course does not follow the usual academic term timetable (e.g., PGT, PGR, or PhD student), you and your supervisor must formally agree vacation periods if this role exceeds 15 hours per week. In addition to this, please be aware if you are an International student you will be required to apply to the Registry for the appropriate Authorised Absence.
You are only eligible to apply to this role if you are a current University of Birmingham student. If you are not a University of Birmingham student your application will not be considered.
To work you will need to carry out a right to work check. These checks will need to be completed prior to work commencing.
