and What You'll Be Doing
We have one of the largest Private Client Teams in the UK. We work with individuals, non-doms, trustees, partnerships, charities, sole traders, and family businesses in managing their tax affairs both on the advisory and compliance side of matters. We work closely with colleagues across the firm to provide a joined-up service to individuals, owner managed businesses, and family offices combining expertise in all relevant taxes.
We are seeking a Private Client Personal Tax Director to join our high-performing and growing Private Client Team. You’ll be part of a collaborative environment where knowledge-sharing and professional growth are at the core of our values.
This role focuses on supporting our lawyers and accountants to deliver tailored tax advisory services to affluent, high-net-worth, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. You will lead on complex personal tax matters including Income tax, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, Trusts, Non-Dom and International clients, offshore structures, and estate planning. Key responsibilities include:
1. The role holder is not expected to have their own client portfolio but is expected to provide specialist tax support and knowledge to Partners and colleagues providing chargeable tax advice to clients. Some chargeable time recording is required.
2. Providing chargeable technical tax advice to colleagues across our Private Client teams. Assisting Partners and colleagues with identifying specific client advisory issues to consider.
3. Technical tax knowledge sharing across the Private Client Group. Providing technical guidance, supervising less experienced colleagues, supporting, training, mentoring and advising others.
4. Provide leadership and guidance to junior members of the team, mentoring colleagues to support the development of their expert tax knowledge.
5. Technical supervision on complex tax matters, including reviewing and signing off on complex tax returns and advisory matters.
6. Provide a formal technical review of work meeting the firm’s high-risk criteria
7. Monitoring and managing tax risk and quality
8. Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and maintain up-to-date knowledge of all personal tax laws.
9. Pro-actively monitoring and communicating tax developments to the Private Client Group
10. Preparing, monitoring and updating tax technical precedents
11. Participate in the strategic planning and decision-making at department and firm levels.
12. Represent the Private Client Group in meetings and presentations concerning personal tax.
13. Leading tax planning and advisory projects alongside Partners.
14. Managing and developing internal and external relationships.
15. Creating ideas and technical content for marketing material and initiatives, writing articles for tax journals etc
16. Collaborating with Partners to help develop new business within the team and build on existing relationships.
17. Identifying opportunities for business development and growth in tax advice across the Private Client Group, and contributing to business development initiatives, to include horizon scanning and thought leadership.
About You
18. Is ACA, ACCA, or CTA -qualified with strong private client tax advisory experience
19. Has an in depth, up to date knowledge of taxation with experience of advising affluent and high net worth individuals, their families and wealth protection structures.
20. Has strong experience and the ability to lead projects and provide support to the wider private client team as a technical expert on a wide range of personal and inheritance tax matters.
21. Experience advising in the trusts and estates specialist area and working with trustees and wealth advisory teams on the tax considerations
22. Has experience of managing a complex portfolio of clients including identification of new opportunities.
23. Has experience of collaborating and consulting with colleagues and Partners on technical and risk matters
Location : Flexible. We have main offices in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, and Chichester. Flexible working with at least 2 days per week in the office.
