The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Senior Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. This is a hybrid position with shared office space in Belfast. We welcome applications from Senior Engineers across Northern Ireland.
Our 130-strong Belfast Design Hub delivers a range of local, national and international projects for clients including Department for Infrastructure Roads, Translink, National Highways, Transport Scotland and Network Rail. Our multidisciplinary team consists of Highway Engineering, Bridge/Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, River & Coastal Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Traffic Engineering/Transport Planning. We also serve as the BIM Centre of Excellence for Amey. This unique ecosystem offers our clients a one-stop shop and provides our staff with opportunities to grow and develop in a knowledge-rich environment with specialists who are eager to assist and mentor their development.
The Role
Our Senior Engineers play an important part within the Highways and Designated Funds Design team and work closely with our client, National Highways. As a Senior Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on various highways drainage schemes while taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers. Responsibilities include:
* Leading the delivery of scheme design, as well as providing support to the Design Team Leader within the design team on various design duties including surveys/inspections, feasibility and other technical reports, planning, programming and cost estimation, design production, production of design schedules, reviewing and amending design drawings, production of specifications, and supporting the development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians.
* Working to programme to deliver specified designs on time.
* Driving effective health and safety practices within your team.
* Liaising with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability.
* Preparing technical reports (e.g. Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports).
What You Will Bring to Us
* Developed experience and expertise within the Highways/Civil engineering field, probably gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
* A comprehensive knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to the civil engineering discipline.
* An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound Highways engineering solutions complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
* Experience in undertaking project-related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
* Successful completion of the initial professional development leading to either Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence.
* A demonstrable commitment to their plan of actions and key dates leading to successful completion of either the professional review or end-point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence.
* A Bachelor's or Master's degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
* EngTech status is desirable, gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned.
