Job overview
Job Summary
* To be an efficient and effective Physiotherapy clinician for King’s College Hospital in outpatient assessment & treatment of patients with complex needs, particularly in the management of patients with Post COVID-19 Syndrome, using a biopsychosocial and goal-orientated framework.
* To undertake assessment of people with Post Covid who present with complex multi-pathology resulting in physical, mental, and social health presentations.
* This may include using a range of assessment tools:
* Physical assessment screening e.g. one minute sit to stand
* Appropriate PROMS for e.g. fatigue, breathlessness and mood.
* To identify when a more specialist assessment is required.
* To formulate, evaluate and reassess individualised management and/or treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and utilising a range of treatment skills and options in order to formulate a programme of care.
* To participate in delivering a high quality, effective and efficient therapy service providing adept clinical intervention in the Post Covid clinics, primarily as part of the multidisciplinary SEL Specialist Assessment Clinics based at Denmark Hill and Princess Royal University Hospital.
* To help to develop the KCH Post Covid therapy services in line with national guidance, South East London policy and commissioning and work collaboratively with colleagues in other acute providers and community sites.

Clinical Responsibilities
* To take responsibility for the efficient, effective and safe management of all patients referred to their teams.
* To work at a proficient level in the field of Post Covid, by receiving referrals, undertaking full assessment and independently diagnosing and then planning individual, specialised and evidence-based treatment programmes for patients appropriately depending on the physiotherapist’s diagnosis, using clinical reasoning and a variety of evidence-based skills.
* To work towards extending own scope of practice within the field of Post Covid assessment and rehabilitation, recognising boundaries of own scope of practice as it develops and managing associated clinical risk at all times.
* To have clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, including those with highly complex and diverse conditions.
* To prioritise work efficiently taking into account clinical and service priorities using knowledge to underpin decisions and request, in conjunction with medical colleagues and with appropriate training to request specialist investigations and act on the interpretation of the results.
* To analyse and interpret clinical and non-clinical facts which may be conflicting, and to provide a therapy opinion to the MDT, including peers and Consultants and external organisations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
MAIN DUTIES CONTINUED
* To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, and of the team responsible for, including management of clinical risk, knowledge of indications and precautions of chosen techniques in line with national and trust clinical guidelines, protocols and pathways where they exist.
* To use recognised outcome measures to evaluate the effect of the interventions used and ensure the treatment programmes are progressing appropriately.
* To use theoretical and practical knowledge to advise, guide and teach junior staff and students in the assessment and management of patients with a wide range of conditions and related problems, showing a holistic approach.
* To keep abreast of new techniques in relation to the management of the patients in this specialty, particularly in line with any national guidance.
* To have a flexible approach to working including delivering Therapy in different locations according to the requirements of the post; and the post holder to undertake on-call, weekend and evening commitments as required.
* Undertake other clinical duties as requested by the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist or Physiotherapy Manager.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Degree or other recognised qualification in Physiotherapy.
* Member of relevant professional body.
Professional registration
* HCPC registration.
* Member of related Clinical Interest Group such as Clinical Post COVID Society or ACPRC.
Training
* Undertaken project or research work.
Skills
* Knowledge of Post Covid-19 Syndrome and the effects on body systems.
* Good assessment skills demonstrating clinical reasoning and varied treatment techniques.
* IT skills including word processing skills, email and PowerPoint.
* Able to present information to small multi-disciplinary groups, at a local level.
* Demonstrates motivational skills and coaching attributes.
Experience
* Knowledge of Post Covid national guidance.
* Experience of teaching and/or presenting to other staff.
* Supervisory or Clinical Educator experience.
