An opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse or ODP to undertake a Band 6 role within the specialty of General theatre scrub. This post will involve cross site working within the Trust.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to help carry our service forward during this time. You will provide a high standard of care to patients requiring pre and post-operative surgical intervention in a demanding and complex environment. You will already have considerable post-registration theatre experience and possess a post-registration mentorship or equivalent teaching qualification.
Managerial skills include staff recruitment and retention, reducing and managing sickness absence, staff appraisals, risk assessment, and coordination of the team.
Staff training and education including clinical governance and clinical supervision to support development of the team.
Our theatre team is multidisciplinary, including Theatre Support Workers, Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners, Surgeons, and Anaesthetists. We deliver high standards of patient care through the perioperative journey. We cover many specialities including general surgery, trauma, obstetrics, urology, colorectal, orthopaedic, and gynaecology. Our theatres are cross site with 6 in our Hartlepool site and 11 in North Tees.
Main duties of the job
Working in a leadership position within the General Scrub speciality. Ensuring high standards of care, patient safety, and efficient delivery of perioperative services. This involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team to coordinate and manage on a daily basis.
A key part of the role will be to work with the theatre management team to initiate new ways of working in support of the Trust's transformation of services and driving productivity and efficiency in an increasingly changing and challenging economic environment.
Job responsibilities
To have responsibility for the management and provision of perioperative care ensuring high standards are maintained at all times in liaison with the multi-disciplinary team and to initiate and take lead in unit developments participating in identifying and achieving Trust and unit objectives.

5. Carry out regular appraisals for staff, ensuring business goals are clearly communicated and linked to objectives.
6. Review training and development of all staff, so all staff have a personal development plan, and support staff in reaching their full potential as identified through the appraisal process.
7. Apply advanced specialist knowledge in scrub in the Theatre setting across a range of work procedures underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.
8. Ensure the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of programmes of care to meet the needs of the individual and that standards are set and met in the delivery of a high-quality service.
9. Ensure own understanding and show compliance with the NMC Code of Professional conduct/Health Professional Council guidelines for Professional Practice and promote same in others.
10. Create a physical and psychological environment, conducive to providing optimum nursing care within the theatre Complex.
11. To ensure a high level of professional awareness, both personally and within the Theatre and Trust by holding and attending appropriate meetings and seminars.
12. Actively engages in all aspects of clinical governance as they relate to the Operating Department.
13. Participate in the maintenance of Quality Assurance, Standards and Audit.
14. Contribute to the Departmental and Organisational Business plan and to manage resources effectively and efficiently, identify and plan to resolve deficiencies, provide a LEAN approach in putting patients first.
15. To take charge of the unit and deal with managerial issues, as they arise, in the absence of the Theatre coordinator/Matron.
16. Work closely with the Theatre Coordinators/Matrons and the Trust wide Theatre/Day Services Manager in identifying the effects of the service provision and assisting in the initiation of change, where appropriate.
17. To participate in the Units recruitment and retention.
18. Promote and maintain a supportive working environment.
Control of Infection
To be accountable for implementation of The Health Act 2006 Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infection within own department/area of responsibility.
Communication and Working Relationships
Communicate with patients, including carers and relatives promoting good public relationships. Communicate effectively with all multi-disciplinary teams and liaise with other agencies as appropriate promoting positive working relationships.
The most challenging part of the job
To develop the necessary skills to ensure the Operating Department is proactive in delivery of a service which meets the needs of all users and to promote effective resource management within the Unit.
