St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response, Falls response and Night Time Economy) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets and Young Responders programmes). Job Summary
The Management Accounting Manager is a qualified accountant, who is the custodian of the monthly management accounts process, their integrity and accuracy. They are the first point of contact for the finance team including the FBPs, the FC and the FD in terms of understanding our monthly I&E account and performance. They are also responsible, pertaining to their areas of responsibility, for balance sheet integrity and a key point of contact for our external auditors. They need to keep themselves up to date with accounting principles and standards and the charities SORP. This role is a key member of the senior management team within the Financial Control Function responsible to, and deputising for, as required, the Financial Controller. The Management Accounting Manager will lead and manage a small team.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Hold a professional accounting qualification (fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
* An expert in the production of monthly management accounts and of delivering comprehensive explanation and understanding of financial performance to a range of stakeholders both within and outside of the Finance team.
* Experience in the preparation of income and expenditure and cash flow forecasts and of identifying, managing and controlling financial risk
* Experience of successfully managing and leading a team of staff within a Finance function, including leading and delivering change whilst maintaining excellence
* Experience of the review and oversight of balance sheet accounts, including reconciliations
About the Role
* Responsible for the delivery of accurate, complete and timely monthly management accounts including I&E statement, within accepted accounting policies, and manage all stakeholders in the delivery of this.
* Responsible for setting and managing the month end and annual close timetable.
* Lead the month end review meetings, providing an explanation and understanding of performance to stakeholders.
* Responsible for an accurate and robust balance sheet, pertaining to areas of responsibility, fully reconciled and understood on a monthly basis, with appropriate remedial actions set and followed up.
* Collaborate with and support the Finance Business Partners across all Networks, providing accurate reporting, insight and explanation to support them in their roles. Maintaining compliance with accounting standards at all time.
* Gather insight and understanding from the FBPs to ensure a full understanding of the organisation and its operations in delivering accurate numbers on a monthly basis. Highlight and challenge areas of financial control risk and work with the FBPs to resolve, holding them to account to deliver their part.
* Provide insightful analysis to and respond to ad hoc requests for information/explanation from the Finance Director Senior Leadership Team as required.
