Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist for Colorectal Cancer

Provide clinical support, expert care and clinical leadership to support patients with a diagnosis of colorectal cancer at ASPH. To provide expert, comprehensive knowledge and specialist advice, information and psychological support to patients with a diagnosis of a colorectal cancer. Support the faster diagnosis and improved outcomes for patients with a suspicion of colorectal cancer. Positively impact the experience of patients and carers by providing high standards of clinical practice and care as appropriate across the trust. Deliver specialist nurse led clinics for surveillance and treatment plans post MDT, and oncology clinics.
Main duties of the job
* To promote high standards of specialist care for patients with a diagnosis of colorectal cancer, ensuring a quality experience.
* To provide specialist support and care to patients admitted with complications of their cancer treatment.
* To work autonomously to support patients with colorectal cancer facilitating necessary investigations and providing clinical engagement.
* Deliver HNA/care plan clinic for all patients with a confirmed diagnosis.
* To be a resource both within the trust and the community for clinical advice and information.
* With the Lead Cancer Nurse contribute to clinical governance within the trust for cancer patients.
* To deliver care in line with National and Alliance guidance and requirements.

Job responsibilities
* To plan, deliver and evaluate programmes to address patients complex health needs.
* Initiate and promote collaborative working relationships and effective communication between all members of the MDT to improve the management and outcomes of patients within the specialist area.
* Discuss investigations and treatment for cancer with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise.
* Deliver clinical care and management in line with local and national guidance and best practice.
* To plan, deliver and evaluate programmes to address patients complex health needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* First level degree in related subject or equivalent knowledge, skills and competency gained through clinical experience working at a senior level.
* Post-basic qualification in cancer or a relevant subject in colorectal cancer care / management or relevant experience in colorectal cancer nursing.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Advanced communications skills training or prepared to work towards.
* SACT certification.
Experience
* Relevant post registration experience at Band 6 or above, in cancer nursing.
* Evidence of advanced communications skills.
* Ability to lead and influence change.
* Previous Band 7 experience.
Knowledge
* Advanced knowledge of colorectal cancer treatment and management.
* Knowledge of cancer performance and standards.
* Awareness of annual Cancer Patient Satisfaction Survey.
Skills
* Effective communication with all service users and with other staff to ensure that care, treatment and support is not compromised.
* Ability to hold a clear strategic vision and develop implementation plans to contribute to the development of the service.
