Job Title: Principal Engineer- Electrical Engineering (Power)
Salary: up to £60,000 per annum dependent upon experience
Location: Coventry
We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Principal Engineer- Electrical Engineering (Power). The role will be based in Coventry and offers the opportunity for hybrid working (this varies depending on the chosen site) and flexible working hours.
They work at the cutting edge of technology, creating more than 100 new inventions every year for customers in over 100 countries.
The team supports the Engineering Manager and external specialists during development and analysis of platform power systems. The Principal Engineer shall act as team lead, managing the day-to-day activities of the team and the production of deliverables. The Principal Engineer shall be responsible for developing and maintaining the competency and skills of the team, project plan and schedule project activities, while managing the resolution of any related issues.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
2. Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme.
3. Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
4. Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including diagrams; technical specifications; supporting calculations; design evidence and justifications.
5. Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer.
6. Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately.
7. Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for various systems.
8. Provide support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical argument clearly, logically and simply.
9. Deliver technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution and change management.

About You:
1. BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent and CEng (or be able to satisfy requirements for CEng).
2. Demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle.
3. Understanding of at least one of the following areas: Power system modelling; generators; switchgear; protection; power electronics.
4. In depth understanding of Power System Architecture, Power and Distribution, Protection and Co-ordination or Power Earth Fault Monitoring.
5. Experience of working within a relevant Engineering role to industry codes and standards.
You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years.
