About Mission Zero Technologies
We’re a London-based climate-tech start-up, working to reframe how the world views carbon in order to enable a thriving planet. Since 2020, we have pioneered the world’s most versatile direct air capture (DAC) technology to recover historic CO₂ emissions from the atmosphere, anywhere, at any scale.
Backed by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the XPRIZE foundation, Stripe, and the UK Government, we’ve moved a brand new climate technology from lab scale to commercial plants in under three years, to empower carbon removal and sustainable utilisation.
About the role
* A 6-month contract with the possibility of extension.
Join MZT at a pivotal moment as we transition from an early-stage R&D startup to a revenue-generating company ready to scale our direct-air capture technology globally.
We’re hiring for a Senior Interface Engineer who is skilled across disciplines in the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) industry. You are likely to have a process engineering background, but alternate starting points could be useful. You have repeated and deep experience in EPC settings working for contracting companies across multiple projects and industries with core experience in the process industries. In this role, you’ll act as the key technical representative facing our EPC suppliers to create scaled-up concept, FEED and eventually detailed design projects for megatonne-scale deployments of our rapidly scaling, proprietary direct air capture (DAC) technology.
Receiving information from our R&D, product development, engineering and operations teams, you’ll help our EPC providers create cost comparisons for alternate routes to scale.
The role will be based between our headquarters in East-Central London, and an EPC contractor to be selected; expect periodic assignments at emerging UK sites, European suppliers, and international locations as we expand.
What youll be doing
* EPC interface engineering: be involved in every consideration between Mission Zero and our EPC provider conducting engineering studies / FEED / detailed design.
* Specification and Review: Specify, check, and review all necessary process and interdisciplinary design deliverables from our EPC supplier. This will include reports, datasheets, calculations, and engineering drawings.
* Engineering Application: Leverage fundamental engineering knowledge to define suitable repeat unit boundaries and optimise plant and product performance as MZT rapidly scales in the direct-air capture space.
* Interdisciplinary Engineering: Work across multiple interfaces internally and externally to best understand requirements and likely optimisations between real plant operating data and scaled-up designs.
* Cost Estimation: working closely with the EPC cost estimators and our internal TEA (techno-economic analysis) engineer - develop robust cost estimates with clear uncertainty bounds based on procurement driven ranges.
* Supply Chain Interfacing: working with our supply chain team, understand and guide the technical options for key potential vendors and their ability to deliver a technically appropriate offer.
* Project Support: Assist the project team in the technical delivery and approach to scale-up from concept, FEED into detailed design.
What youll need to be successful in this role
* MEng Engineering Degree within Process or Chemical Engineering (or suitable discipline).
* 10 years minimum industrial experience delivering projects with significant process design content across multiple industries.
* Chartered status with a relevant engineering institution e.g. IChemE.
* Deep experience in the EPC sector working within and/or as client representative to contracting firms delivering major capital design and execution projects.
* Experience leading concept design and FEED projects across multiple technologies.
* Experience in cost estimating >1USD 1 billion capital projects.
* Experience working with at least one of absorption; scrubbing; continuous gas-liquid systems; electrodialysis.
* Comfortable working with ambiguity.
* Ability to design and critically evaluate P&IDs for vendor scope splits on paper and live plant scales especially from a process, controls, and safety perspective.
* Leadership in hazard and risk identification (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL).
* Experience with engineering supply chain management.
Ideally youll also have
* >15 years project experience.
* Experience working with more than one of absorption, scrubbing, continuous gas-liquid systems, electrodialysis.
* Expertise in process safety procedures with workshop leadership certification.
* Familiarity with processes handling CO 2 and its associated safety concerns / management.
* Good understanding of electrochemistry.
* Good understanding of materials in the context of chemical and weathering resistance.
* Suitable safety accreditation e.g. NEBOSH.
* Lean operational certificate, e.g. six sigma or equivalent.
* Experience in commissioning / decommissioning process units.
What we can offer you
* 30 days of Annual Leave
* 3 months Paternity/Maternity Leave
* Unlimited mental health support
* Employee Share Options Scheme
* Christmas holidays office closure
* Cycle to work scheme
* Employer-matched contributions to global re-wilding programme
* Opportunities to directly impact where our company is headed
* A high-growth, high-trust environment that encourages bold creativity
