The Role: The successful candidate will be part of Hiscox UK and its Casualty Portfolio Claims team. You will handle a portfolio of professional indemnity claims which are 100% underwritten by Hiscox and will assist customers when claims have been made or threatened against them. You will have daily contact with Hiscox’s customers and key brokers and will be on the front line of our claims service delivery. You will be required to liaise with key stakeholders, internally and externally. Insurance knowledge is a strongly preferred; sound commercial and intellectual skills are also required to handle a broad range of technical and legal challenges. What you’ll be doing: Full management of a portfolio of professional indemnity claims from first notification to conclusion. Reviewing and confirming Hiscox’s policy coverage position. Setting the claim strategy and handling internally where possible. Selection, instruction and active management of external advisers and experts, including solicitors on appropriate matters. Liaising and negotiating with customers, brokers, claimants and their representatives. Demonstrating excellent file handling and claims management through pro-active portfolio management; accurate and timely reserving; effective risk and indemnity costs management. Promoting and delivering a continuous improvement culture within the UK Casualty Claims team to deliver a superior customer experience. Working closely with underwriters to win and retain business and develop Hiscox’s insurance products. Assisting in the continuous improvement of our Claims service by identifying areas of opportunity and helping create innovative solutions. Our must haves: A qualified solicitor, legal executive, paralegal, CII claims professional or insurance claims handler with at least 3 years’ experience of professional indemnity claims or equivalent experience in civil/commercial litigation claims in England and Wales. Insurance experience is advantageous but not essential. For those with insurance experience, policy coverage knowledge of professional indemnity and management liability policies would be relevant. Robust understanding of litigation and the legal process; knowledge of all methods of dispute resolution. Ability to evidence strong organisational and communication skills. Commercial acumen with the ability to understand the impact of claims decisions on our customers and the wider UK business. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly establish credibility and long lasting relationships within the team, the wider business and with customers and external partners.
