Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is recruiting a Test Technician (Electrical) from our Blyth office, to provide technician support, as well as plan, operate and install all necessary elements for testing activities within the Drivetrain test facilities and the new Technology Development Centre (TDC).
What will I do?
* Responsible for ensuring the electrical connection of ground-breaking prototype and commercial test pieces to our test rigs including - Next Generation Wind Turbines, Generators, Transformers, Battery Systems along with the instrumentation and control systems needed to carry out testing of these devices.
* Maintain and operate ORE Catapult’s equipment and systems within the Drivetrain and Technology Development Centre at the Blyth site.
* Install electrical wiring and equipment to BS7671. This involves:
* Power and containment – Install and terminate SWA and other types of cable. Install cable tray, trunking, etc. Build and wire panels. Test systems before energisation.
* Control & Instrumentation – Install sensors. Wire connectors. Gland, label, and terminate multi-core cables into control panels.
* Completing paperwork and maintaining records during test setup (test sheets, “as built” drawings, etc).
* Assist the Test Engineer in the tasks required to deliver successful tests in the facilities (including where needed operation of test rigs).
* To guide and support the maintenance team with operational and maintenance tasks.
* To support the development of equipment and operations to advance testing techniques and knowledge within the facilities.
* Ensure compliance to the highest QHSE standard within all areas of the role and its responsibilities.
* Suggest, and where possible, deliver improvements, future developments and increased efficiency across the team.
* To ensure that site housekeeping and 5S is kept to a high standard.
* To operate site plant and machinery for operational requirements and work at height. Training will be provided where needed.
* Work under ORE Catapult RAMS and permit system. Adhere to Safe Systems of Work.
* Work at locations remote to ORE Catapult Blyth site this is extremely rare.
* Demonstrate good time-keeping and the ability to work flexible working hours, including overtime and weekends when needed.
* Complete ad-hoc duties relevant to the role under direction of line manager or their appointed deputy.
* Supervise customer and contractor activity as necessary.
What are we looking for?
* Minimum time-served Electrical Technician with current practical experience.
* Minimum ONC in electrical engineering or industry equivalent.
* Current BS7671 18th Edition qualification.
* Current City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award or similar.
* Relevant Electrical testing certification desirable.
* Experience in installation, maintenance, and fault-finding/rectification on electrical systems.
* Experience of working in heavy industrial sites and facilities would be desirable.
* Experience on PLCs or DAQ systems and relevant sensors would be desirable.
* Good approach to Health and Safety practices including understanding, adhering to and sometimes producing risk assessments and method statements.
* Awareness of HSE topics relevant to tasks and the ability to identify and report unsafe conditions.
* Basic knowledge of renewable energy industry (desirable)
* Ability to prioritise and adapt in a fast-paced environment
* Work accurately, conscientiously, diligently and with attention to detail
