Mental Health Occupational Therapy Assistant - Older Adults

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Older Adult Community Mental Health/Dementia team in East Staffordshire, covering areas such as Lichfield, Tamworth, Burton, Uttoxeter, Burntwood and surrounding areas.
You will join a developing and innovative service that aims to provide the right care and treatment at the right time, to individuals within the Staffordshire area. You will become part of an established multi-disciplinary team that has a strong emphasis on delivering evidence based occupational therapy interventions to meet the needs of older adults with mental health needs and dementia.
Main duties of the job
Working in an Older Adult mental health and dementia team with the flexibility of working in base, at home and in the community, in patient's homes and community settings.
Delivering a high-quality clinical service to patients and their families in the community.
Delivering occupational therapy interventions, in accordance with an agreed care plan, to an identified group of people experiencing mental health and dementia related difficulties under the guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist.
Support and co-lead community activities and interventions with Service users/patients.

Job responsibilities
We are looking for someone who has experience, relevant knowledge and a passion to be working with mental health service users, contributing to interventions that promote recovery or support living well with dementia. Applicants need to be able to demonstrate drive and motivation in providing recovery based Occupational Therapy (OT) interventions.
You will have the opportunity to work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, which includes other allied health professionals, nursing, medics, social workers and psychology. Your role will involve working closely with other agencies, carers, service users, families and the local community, ensuring continuity of service is provided at a high level.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent).
* Relevant Level 3 (or above) qualification in Health, Social care, or Education.
Skills
* Awareness of needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
* Awareness of the needs of individuals from diverse social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
* Ability to communicate information (verbal and written) effectively in a manner appropriate to the individual and situation.
Experience
* Experience of paid or voluntary work with people with mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
* Basic knowledge of some conditions relevant to the clinical area and the effects of illness on function.
* Experience working alongside Occupational Therapists.
