Job Overview: The ME ensures that manufacturing is carried out (and the end product is produced) in the most time-efficient and cost-effective way while still maintaining overall product quality. Their duties include, choosing the best technologies and processes to manufacture it, plan and design the factory that will produce the product, and manage the running, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the manufacturing process. Description of Job Role Evaluating quality control processes and making recommendations for improvements Analysing and reporting on production processes, methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, availability of machines and waste management Ensuring that the organisations manufacturing processes comply with relevant policies and government laws and regulations Reviewing and calculating the costs of the different tools and equipment in the production process and predicting the overheads in future production requirements Analysing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment placement to maximise manufacturing efficiency Oversee to ensure operations staff follow the manufacturers procedures and instructions while operating the equipment Establishing an effective work sequence Provides manufacturing decision making information e.g. calculating production/material costs or supporting make or buy decisions Design CNC programs using CADCAM Lead operations improvement activities and identify and implement best practise manufacturing methods improving quality and productivity and reducing waste/cost Provide production engineering support and expertise to operations staff Evaluate and recommend new methods, design changes, tooling and fixtures to reduce manufacturing and assembly time Product cost reduction with process capability Train and support operations staff providing expertise and create training manuals and work instructions as required Development of Process FMEAs and Control Plans Maintaining elements used within the Manufacturing Bill of Materials, (BoM) Lead times, material usage, costing etc. Including updating ERP system Key Technical/Professional Competencies Understanding of manufacturing processes Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, PFMEA and Control plans Understanding of Manufacturing Engineering core processes (e.g. process planning, inspection planning, tooling, creation of operator instructions) Ability to characterize various tools, toolings and fixtures Education & Professional Qualification: Diploma / Graduate in Mechanical Engineering.
