THE ROLE: Qualified & currently licensed ELECTRICIANS with commercial or industrial backgrounds required to work on the American base, McMurdo Station. Work is primarily commercial electrical up to medium voltage, with a distinct advantage for those experienced in fabricating metal conduit, data cabling, security systems, & fire alarms. You should be comfortable performing tasks from reading electrical schematics to pulling wires, with duties that may be basic & repetitive at times. You will also assist other trades & perform general labouring jobs, as everyone needs to pitch in & help the team.

* UPS battery systems and/or backup generator systems
* Telecoms
* Security system installation
WHAT’S ON OFFER:
* TRAVEL: Flights provided from any major NZ airport.

* RATES: $64.28 contract rate per hour, paid fortnightly in NZ$
* EQUIPMENT: PPE supplied as well as specialised cold weather gear.

EXPECTED HOURS:
* 54 hours per week, working 6 out of 7 days. This schedule remains consistent regardless of weather conditions.
DATES:
* Starting around March 2025 & running through till September 2025. This is not a FIFO role; you’ll be away the entire period. Start dates are approx dependent on medical & security clearance, your notice period, & ice flight availability.
This role is not for the faint-hearted; you’ll be staying in one of the most isolated places in the world. We need people who will encourage, motivate & support each other during the time away.
ESSENTIAL TRAITS:
* TEAM PLAYER: A positive attitude & willingness to be part of a hardworking, supportive team are crucial. Remote projects require a solid team effort.
* FITNESS: Exceptional fitness is necessary due to long hours & extreme conditions.
WHAT YOU NEED:
* VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: Fully vaccinated for Covid-19 due to Antarctica travel requirements.
* LICENSING: Hold a current NZ Electrical Practicing Licence & be able to provide proof at interview.
* REFERENCES: Provide recent referees who can validate your commercial experience.
* EXPERIENCE: Submit a current detailed CV outlining your skills, experience, & types of commercial projects worked on.
* IT SKILLS: Competent in handling a lot of detailed paperwork & IT-related tasks.
* PATIENCE: The application process is thorough & will take several months to complete. Be prepared for a detailed & lengthy process.

CRITERIA TO MEET:
* CITIZENSHIP: Be a NZ or US Citizen with a current NZ or US Passport.
* LOCATION: Are currently & permanently residing in New Zealand.
* INTERVIEWS: Conducted via phone & video.
* MEDICAL TESTS: You will need to travel to Tauranga for dental & medical tests. We cover exam costs & provide flights/accommodation for those outside of Tauranga.
* LICENSING: Hold a current Full Class 1 Drivers License.
* CRIMINAL RECORD: Have a clean criminal record. MOJ Checks will be conducted as part of the interview process.
* TESTING: Must pass pre-employment & random drug/alcohol testing.
* ATTENTION TO DETAIL: Ability to follow instructions precisely & pay attention to detail.
