Aspire People is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support students across Maths, English, and Science at a Secondary School in Denton, Manchester. The ideal candidate will be competent to help students across all age groups from Year 7 through to GCSE Level, in achieving their full potential in their core subjects.
So a good knowledge of the core subject curriculums, is absolutely necessary.
The pupils you'll be supporting are diverse in their individual learning needs, including Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, and behaviour that challenges. You will play a vital role in helping these students access the curriculum, build confidence, and make progress across their core subjects.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 support to students with SEN needs in core subjects: Maths, English, and Science.
* Assist in breaking barriers to learning, and assist in the delivery of tailored lesson plans, supporting the subject teacher in adapting materials and approaches for students with a range of learning needs.
* Work closely with students to promote engagement, build confidence, and encourage academic progress.
* Support students in developing their independence and self-regulation skills.
* Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff and school leaders.
* Assist with classroom management to ensure an inclusive and positive learning environment, especially for students with behavioural challenges.
* Attend regular training and development sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with diverse needs.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
* Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a secondary school setting.
* Strong knowledge and understanding of Maths, English, and Science up to GCSE Level.
* Experience supporting students with a range of learning needs, including ASC, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, SEMH, and behaviour that challenges.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting students' learning and wellbeing.
* A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is preferred but not essential
* You will ideally have an A Level in one of the subjects youll be helping with, but a knowledge of all three up to GCSE Level is vital.
* A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Desirable Attributes:
* Experience working from personalised learning plans or individual education plans (IEPs).
* Confidence in using ICT to support learning, including interactive whiteboards and educational software.
* Experience in de-escalation techniques and supporting students with behavioural challenges.
