Pulpex is a packaging technology company with a mission to deliver sustainability through renewable paper-based packaging. We seek an experienced Technical Services Manager to join our team and help implement the next generation of paper bottle production equipment, at our R&D facility in Sawston, south of Cambridge.
This is a technical role in a technical facility, rather than a general Facilities Management role. You should have strong electrical experience (rather than purely mechanical) and be comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment. You will manage all technical and technical administrative aspects of the facility and its machinery, running a small maintenance team to meet ambitious, dynamic goals as part of a much larger, future leaning vision.
Experience of automation, manufacturing, health and safety, compliance and departmental budget management required. Low Voltage Authorised Person qualification (or willingness to achieve it) is highly desirable.
ROLE:
Reporting directly to the Site Director, the main purpose of the role is to manage all aspects of our cutting-edge facility, including production machinery and production support machinery maintenance. You will supervise all maintenance staff and contractors, ensuring all safety and quality procedures are followed and improvements are identified and implemented in line with a culture of continuous improvement. You will also act as Pulpex’s representative in all building related projects and production related machinery installations and upgrades at our Sawston site. The role requires the holder to ensure demonstrable evidence and documentation of all maintenance, compliance and H&S related records and matters within their area of responsibility. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) leadership to improve processes, equipment, staff awareness and training to ensure EHS improvement and delivery against KPIs and Regulatory / corporate needs. This Responsibility Should be delivered in conjunction with the Pulpex Health and Safety Advisor, however, the post holder is expected to take the on-site day to day lead in this area.
• Responsible to ensure all products are made efficiently in compliance with legal, HARA, product safety, quality and BRCGS requirements.
· Develop, implement, maintain and be accountable for the successful management and oversight of all Pulpex Safe Systems of Work.
· Develop and maintain a maintenance management system that can plan, detail and document all maintenance activity required to achieve statutory and regulatory compliance, support ongoing BRCGS accreditation.
· Ensure the Maintenance team and any contractors work within the BRCGS Quality Management system.
· Alongside Production Management, support a suitable balanced workload of PPM and Machine Availability are delivered to ensure production output and delivery targets are achieved cost effectively and with minimum machine downtime.
· Ensure the maintenance team and contractors are deployed to support preventive maintenance and asset lifecycle care, including strategic replacement of equipment.
· Own the engineering and site services aspects of new technology introduction, ensuring that safe and profitable processes are brought from concept to full production.
· Devise suitable KPIs and reports to ensure that performance is tracked and improved.
· Ensure that the Engineering team have the necessary capacity, training, competence, knowledge and both technical and leadership skills in order to achieve KPI targets.
· Establish goals and objectives for self and team and implement accordingly to help support/improve job performance.
· Implement, monitor and review training and development strategy and support learning and development of the Engineering team.
· Monitor, review and address personnel under performance, capability and sickness, maintaining appropriate records in accordance with company procedures.
· Accountable for ensuring all corrective actions are identified in incident reports related to their areas of responsibility are appropriate and completed on time and in full. Ensure a right first-time culture is delivered.
· Work with the Quality Management team to improve the working practices, using the Lean toolbox, starting with the successful delivery of 6S and developing the use of others such as Kaizen, Work Standardisation etc.
