OVERVIEW
The role of the School Finance Manager is to assist the Bursar with day-to-day finance activities as well as be a key contributor to the budgeting and management reporting process.
To succeed in this role you should have a proactive mindset, a desire to learn and work in the independent education sector and be comfortable engaging with a range of stakeholders and particularly the parents of pupils in the school.
The role is expected to require approximately three days per week, but this can be negotiated with the successful candidate.
While previous experience with the below tasks is not a prerequisite it is anticipated that the successful candidate will have prior experience in a finance role/environment with similar responsibilities.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
· Invoice and Payment Processing : Handle purchase invoices, staff expense claims, music teacher invoices, and prepare weekly payment runs for Bursar authorisation.
· Supplier and Account Management : Analyse and reconcile supplier statements, liaise with suppliers to resolve queries, and update the debtors log weekly while chasing late payments.
· Banking and Balance Sheet Management : Post daily banking transactions in iFinance, record and balance petty cash, and complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
· Billing and Parent Liaison : Assist with termly billing routines, liaise with parents regarding billing or account queries, and set up monthly direct debits while monitoring issues.
· Financial Reporting and Audits : Prepare nominal ledger journals, lettings invoices, departmental budget reports, and assist with annual audits, VAT returns,
· Management Reporting : Lead where possible in the production of termly management accounts for review by Bursar and contribute to the production of Board and Committee meeting packs.
· Budgeting and Payroll : Support the production of the annual budget, termly forecasts, and monthly payroll, and assist with ad hoc reporting for specific school activities like camps and trips.
· General Support : The school operates in a highly dynamic and rapidly changing environment and as such you should have a desire to take on additional finance related tasks and challenges as they arise. Similarly you would be expected to handle any other reasonable requests from the Bursar, Headmaster, or School Secretary.
Hours of work: 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (expected to be three day equivalent although flexible start / finish time also considered)
