Galway Arts Centre, in partnership with Galway Culture Company, is pleased to announce an open call for eight bursary awards, designed to support artists based in or from Galway City and County. These bursaries aim to provide financial support for artists to develop their work and practice, covering time, research, materials, and mentorship/training as applicable. This initiative aligns with the strategic goals of both organisations to foster sustainable creative practices and support artists in the Galway region.
The bursaries are divided as follows:
1. Two bursaries for professional artists to develop new artistic work or research.
2. Two bursaries for emerging artists from or living in Galway who have graduated or qualified within the last three years.
3. Two bursaries for artists with lived experience of displacement, intergenerational migration, or from historically marginalised communities.
4. One bursary focused on environmental sustainability, art and ecology, or climate change.
5. One bursary for an emerging/independent curator to develop their practice.
Each bursary is valued at €5,000. Additionally, one awardee will be offered a solo exhibition at Galway Arts Centre in 2025.
Applicants must submit an artist statement, a selection of recent work, a CV/resume, a proposal detailing the intended use of the award, and a budget. Applications should be sent via email to education@galwayartscentre.ie with the subject ‘Galway Arts Centre/Galway Culture Company Artists Bursary Award’ by 5pm on Friday, 23 February 2024. Successful applicants will be notified by 4 March 2024.
