Position Title: Strategic Relationships and Democracy Manager
Location: Basildon
Type of Contract: Temporary
Working Hours: 36.25 hours per week
Pay: £35 per hour (umbrella)
Hybrid Working: Flexible hybrid arrangement, requiring a minimum of three office days per week, along with attendance at evening meetings as necessary.
Role Overview
Primary Responsibilities:
* Providing strategic guidance and oversight for the Chief Executive’s office and the Committee, Civic, and Member Support functions.
* Delivering direct support to the Chief Executive and Leader to effectively navigate a complex and evolving political environment.
* Assisting senior leaders in maintaining strong and compliant governance structures by applying detailed knowledge of legislation, policies, and procedures.
* Managing a team to provide proactive, collaborative, and high-quality support to senior leadership, ensuring strategic and organisational goals are met.
* Producing work of exceptional quality while handling sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
* Remaining up to date on key challenges and priorities, collaborating with senior leaders to address them effectively.

* Relevant Experience: Demonstrated experience in a comparable role within local government or the public sector.
* Presentation Skills: Confidence in presenting to a diverse audience of stakeholders.
* Governance Expertise: Thorough understanding of governance and decision-making processes, with the ability to provide senior leaders with constitutional advice.
* Political Awareness: Strong political insight to identify risks and issues, ensuring senior officers are well-prepared.
* Relationship Management: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build strong relationships.
