About Wessex Internet
We are a fast-growing, innovative Internet provider, delivering full-fibre broadband across rural areas in the Southwest, including Dorset, Somerset, New Forest, and now expanding our network into Wiltshire. Dedicated to delivering lightning-fast broadband to thousands of countryside homes and businesses, we are different to most Alt Nets in that we design, build, and operate our own network to ensure every connection meets our high standards.
Late last year, we celebrated an exciting milestone in connecting our 10,000th customer to our full-fibre service. This achievement highlights our commitment to exceptional customer service and is reflected in our customer reviews & trust pilot scores.
We’re a growing business built on teamwork, where each contribution is valued and has a part to play in our successes. With a focus on personal and professional growth, we offer endless opportunities to make an impact. As we continue to grow, we are seeking passionate individuals to join our passionate team.
The Role
Wessex Internet is looking for a Head of Operations to drive efficiency, structure, and accountability across our network build function. This role will be responsible for ensuring that the function, responsible for all planning and build of our network, operates as if it were an independent contractor, with clear delivery expectations, structured processes, and performance measures in place.
The successful candidate will lead process and system improvements across planning and build, ensuring the function operates at maximum efficiency in order to effectively deliver on the business’ 5 year roll out objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Establishing a Structured Delivery Model
o Define and implement formalised delivery terms, ensuring the network build function operates with clear scopes, timelines, costs, and performance expectations - as if it were an external contractor.
o Introduce structured governance, reporting, and accountability measures to drive transparency and efficiency in project execution.
o Maintain the agility of the current team while embedding a contractor-style approach to project delivery, balancing flexibility with clear responsibility.
o Directly manage and evolve the Stores and Fleet functions to support efficient network roll out.
2. Operational Efficiency & Process Improvement
o Optimise workflows across planning, design, and build to improve delivery speed, direct labour resource utilisation and reduce roll out cost.
o Evolve and introduce effective performance tracking systems to enhance operational visibility.
o Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Strategic Leadership & Business Alignment
o Align the network build function with broader business objectives, strategic input from the Executive Team, growth plans, and financial targets.
o Work cross-functionally with senior leadership to improve coordination between build, planning, finance, and commercial teams.
o Foster a high-performance culture, ensuring clear ownership and accountability across the function.
4. Financial & Compliance Oversight
o Ensure budget discipline and cost efficiency within the network build function.
o Maintain and improve compliance frameworks for health & safety, regulatory standards, and risk management.
o Establish and embed procedures to proactively identify and mitigate risks related to project delivery.
Skill/Character Requirements
1. Infrastructure Build Expertise
o Experience in operations management within telecoms, fibre, or infrastructure sectors.
o Strong understanding of FTTP/FTTH network deployment, civils, and contractor-style project management.
2. Leadership & Stakeholder Management
o Proven ability to structure and manage operational teams under a defined delivery framework.
o Experience leading teams and fostering a culture of accountability and efficiency.
o Strong stakeholder management skills, ensuring seamless coordination between internal teams and external partners.
3. Process & Systems Optimisation
o Expertise in operational process improvement, workflow optimisation, and system implementation.
o Analytical mindset, with experience using data and performance metrics to drive decision-making.
4. Financial & Compliance Acumen
o Experience managing operational budgets, cost controls, and financial forecasting.
o Understanding of industry regulations, health & safety standards, and risk management.
