Job purpose
1. To manage the operations of YMCA Yorkshire Coast’s buildings in order to provide an effective
quality service and to promote and maximise use.
2. To manage YMCA ran services, providing leadership and support to ensure the team can be their
best.
3. You will work with the other Managers in the team to ensure a joined-up service is offered.
Supporting each other where there are gaps, taking decisions for the good of the YMCA
4. The Operations Manager will have practical responsibility for managing all aspects of YMCA
Scarborough’s St. Thomas Street Building including its programme, facilities and its team. The
effective, safe and efficient management of YMCA Scarborough and good quality service to its
customers.
5. The Operations Manager will also deputise for the Chief Executive Officer as required.
6. The Operations Manager will be the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the organisation.
Responsibilities and main duties
1. Liaise with individuals and groups using St. Thomas Street Building to ensure that their needs, as
well as those of the YMCA, are met, including but not limited to the timely management of
contracting, technical support, promotion and sales.
2. Ensure safe, efficient and impactful operation of YMCA ran activities, including buildings,
equipment and staffing.
3. Assist in the strategic direction of the St. Thomas Street Building, ensuring that the project follows
the wider vision of YMCA Yorkshire Coast. Identify and develop both “Enterprising Projects” and
“Mission Projects” in that area. Maximising usage and value for money. Work with the Senior
Leadership Team on the wider YMCA mission.
4. To manage the operational needs of any offsite projects and/or activities.
5. To manage the operational needs of any new buildings & projects and assisting with planning the
staffing, equipment and building needs of those new projects.
6. Work within an operating budget and assisting the CEO in producing the annual budget. Ensuring
accurate and timely invoices are produced, daily takings are scrutinised and effective stock
control is maintained and priced to deliver an agreed level of mark-up.
7. To be part of the Senior Leadership Team of YMCA Yorkshire Coast and contribute ideas on the
wider direction of the organisation.
8. To be the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the organisation, promoting good safeguarding
practices and ensuring
9. To recruit, lead, develop and support your team (paid staff and volunteers) to deliver great
service and reach their potential. This will include effective deployment, induction, training and
development, performance management, appreciation and enabling your team to reach their
potential.
10. Champion the charity through marketing, networking, events, conferences and talks.
11. Ensure accurate records are kept including diaries, contracts and agreements.
12. Contribute to effective PR and publicity for YMCA as a whole, investigating value for money and
ongoing changing audiences.
13. Manage the timely maintenance, servicing and repair/replacement of all equipment and facilities
according to budget and other constraints. Source competitive quotes, to reduce the cost base
negotiate maximum discounts and be the point of contact for tradespeople completing work onsite.
14. Undertake risk assessments, ensure a strong culture of safety is present within the theatre. Be
responsible for all matters of Health and Safety. Ensuring accurate and timely reports are
provided to the Senior Leadership Team.
15. Provide when required, updates and papers to the Board of Trustees.
16. Undertake training and CPD as required
17. Represent the wider charity at events, conferences, etc.
18. Liaise, learn and be connected with the wider YMCA Federation and movement.
19. Assist in the day to day running of YMCA Yorkshire Coast as required.
