Winter Maintenance Driver, Totton
Varied hours per week
Milestone Infrastructure, part of M Group Services, are looking for part time HGV Cat C (Class 2) drivers, with CPC, to work on our Hampshire Highways Maintenance contract as Winter Maintenance drivers. The drivers will be appointed on a temporary contract to cover the Winter Maintenance season from 1st October 2024 until 30th April 2025. We are looking for suitable candidates to work on a zero-hour contract basis.
This position will require you to work varied hours per week.
Your duties & responsibilities will be:
1. To drive a Winter Maintenance Gritting Vehicle for the duration of the winter maintenance season, being allocated to a rota within the Hampshire area.
2. To be on standby alternate weeks i.e., one week on standby followed by one week off throughout the winter maintenance season.
3. To undertake the gritting of the roads on your allocated route and all the associated activities required to deliver the Winter Service.
We are looking for:
1. A full UK driving licence with HGV Class 2 (category C) entitlement and a full CPC is essential.
2. A valid Winter Maintenance qualification or experience. If, however, training is required, training for the City and Guilds qualification will be arranged for August / September 2023 and the above-mentioned temporary contract will be extended to cover this.
3. The ability to get to your appointed Hampshire Highways Depot within 1 hour’s notice.
Shifts and Pay Rates:
The Winter Maintenance Season rota will commence on the 1st October 2024 and will finish on the 30th April 2025. Drivers must commit to being on standby alternate weeks for the duration of the service. A week starts at 07.00 am on the Friday and finishes at 07.00 am the following Friday. When you are on Standby, you can be called out at any time to undertake a grit run.
Callouts for Winter Service will be paid as follows: £100 per run (up to five hours) weekdays Mon-Sat, £130 per run Sundays (up to five hours), £130 per run Bank Holidays (up to five hours), including Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Easter Sunday. In the event a run exceeds 5 hours, overtime will be paid at the appropriate rate in increments of 15 minutes.
Standby will be at £150 per week, with an additional £55 per day for those on standby on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, and £25 per day for those on standby on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
