We're seeking a proactive and experienced Health and Safety Manager to take the lead in shaping and delivering exceptional health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards across a diverse and fast-paced working environment.
Based in Staffordshire, with regular travel to other office locations and client sites throughout the UK, this role offers the opportunity to work at the heart of major infrastructure and engineering projects. It's ideal for a driven professional ready to make a tangible impact by embedding a strong safety culture across all levels of the business.
You'll be the primary contact for all HSE matters, responsible for maintaining and developing systems to ensure legal compliance and best practice across all operations. From managing CDM responsibilities to delivering audits, training programmes and incident investigations, this role is both strategic and hands-on. You'll also mentor and support a small team, driving engagement and continuous improvement across the board.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead all health, safety, and environmental activities across offices and client sites
2. Act as the main point of contact for HSE matters, supporting staff and management
3. Ensure full compliance with CDM regulations for both Principal Designer and Principal Contractor roles
4. Manage risk assessments, internal permit to work systems, and method statements
5. Conduct audits and inspections in line with company and legislative standards
6. Deliver engaging toolbox talks, briefings, and internal training sessions
7. Support project teams in preparing compliant HSE documentation
8. Oversee accident and incident reporting and investigations
9. Mentor team members and support their professional development
10. Review and improve all HSE documentation and practices as required
What You'll Bring:
1. A strong track record in HSE and QHSE management (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001)
2. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification
3. In-depth knowledge of CDM regulations and experience in their practical application
4. Experience managing audits, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and method statements
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence to influence at all levels
6. Previous line management and mentoring experience
7. A collaborative mindset and a proactive approach to driving improvements
Desirable:
1. Experience within the oil and gas or utilities sectors
2. Auditor qualification and experience with large infrastructure clients or providers
3. Background in design, manufacturing, installation, or service-based environments
