Newport Live is an award-winning not-for-profit sport, leisure and cultural trust; we are a registered UK charity with an excellent track record of delivering innovative programmes and services to our communities and residents, that 'inspire people to be happier and healthier'.
The Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 was introduced to assist the Welsh Government vision in shorter distance travel throughout local communities, being led by cycling and walking for a healthier, more sustainable, Wales.
To encourage Active Travel across Newport, we created Momentwm - a new, dedicated team to lead this behaviour change initiative, and we are looking for an additional Engagement Officer to join us on this journey, on a casual basis, to assist with cover during busy periods, absences and events.
Our Engagement Officers are responsible for the operational delivery of the Active Travel initiative through the Momentwm project.
This includes our 'Learn to Ride' and 'Learn to Maintain' cycle programmes, and coordination of walking groups across the City, so excellent planning and organisational skills are essential.
You must be comfortable engaging with people from a variety of backgrounds and abilities, through a friendly and understanding approach in all you do.
Working with local businesses, participants, and residents to understand their travel habits and journeys, and encouraging them to be cycle friendly, you will be instrumental as an Active Travel Ambassador - inspiring people to make more active travel choices, supporting with their competence, and their confidence.
You will be supporting the Programme Manager in the delivery of programme initiatives, engagement and promotion, with responsibility for undertaking regular data collection and programme review. As part of a small team, you will need the initiative to work alone when required, as well as being a supportive team player as you collaborate to achieve Momentwm's vision.
