The Deputy Matron supports the day to day running of the Community Hospital services by ensuring the provision of a high standard of care, providing advice and information to both patients' relatives, carers, and junior staff.
You will be working alongside our medical teams and Intermediate Care Teams, facilitating patient choice and promoting patient independence. The role of the Deputy Matron enables you to work with and across multiple different disciplines from primary to secondary care.
Working closely with surrounding Acute Hospital sites, Intermediate Care Teams, and Community Colleagues.

Main duties of the job
1. To provide a focused leadership role to manage staff and activities of the clinical area
2. To act as a role model and maintain the highest standard of patient care by providing leadership and coordination of the community hospitals nursing team, leading by example and demonstrating effective role modelling to all members of the nursing team
3. To use best evidence available to maintain a high standard of patient care
4. To adhere to and practice within the Nursing and Midwifery's Code of professional practice
5. To be recognised as a clinical expert within the post holder's clinical environment. Act as a mentor, teaching and supervising staff
6. Responsible for the assessment of care needs and development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care
7. The post holder is required to supervise and teach both registered and non-registered staff
8. To act as a deputy to the nominated Matron in all aspects of management.
9. To work with the Matron to develop our service requirements to meet the needs of our patients, the Paignton & Brixham Service Delivery Unit, and wider Trust
10. To work with the Matron to manage the Community Hospitals budget and provide safe patient care within allocated resources
11. Ensure that clinical incidents are reported and investigated according to Trust policy
12. Maintain a healthy, safe, and productive work environment in line with legal, organisational, and Nursing & Midwifery council requirements
