These are exciting times for the city, and the council. We are moving to a new model of delivery to build a city that is healthier, wealthier, fairer, safer, greener, cleaner, and more skilled. This new approach is already delivering results as we enter 2025 – an important year that marks the centenary of Stoke-on-Trent becoming a city.
We have a clear direction and a clear sense of purpose, but there is much more to do. Effective communication will be vital to our success.
We are looking for a first-rate communicator who understands a wide range of audiences and can write accordingly. You will be just as comfortable writing for social media as you are writing press releases or statements. You will understand the role and importance of the full range of communications tools – including video and graphics.
You will have an interest in using data to better identify and reach audiences, and a keen understanding of how to use metrics and social media “listening” to shape output. You will be brimming with ideas, with a proactive attitude towards communications and campaigns.
Above all, you will be passionate about working in partnership - with the communications team, wider council colleagues, and partners across the city and county – to connect with all our communities as we tell Stoke-on-Trent’s story to them and the wider world.
Please note that if an employee who is currently at risk of redundancy within the organisation applies for this vacancy their application will receive priority. If this happens you will be advised accordingly.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Stoke-on-Trent City Council values the diversity of its community and aims to have a workforce that reflects this – we therefore encourage applications from all sections of our community. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees – a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed together.
