Our dedicated Respiratory team are seeking a Respiratory Physiologist to join us and contribute to our mission of providing exceptional patient facing care.
You will work as part of a team delivering respiratory diagnostics alongside the broader multi-disciplinary team giving exceptional care to a complex and diverse group of patients.
This role is suitable for a fully independent Physiologist with experience of running a Physiologist led Sleep service to join us working as a Band 7 Senior Physiologist.
We also welcome applications from individuals who would like an opportunity to develop their career with us through our Band 6 to 7 developmental pathway. As a Band 6 Physiologist you will collaborate with the existing team to develop the necessary skills and competencies for progression to Band 7.
Main duties of the job
As the Band 7 Respiratory Physiologist you will work with the Lead Respiratory Physiologist & Physiology Service Manager delivering the Respiratory Physiology & Sleep Services. You will:
1. Take patients from referral through to treatment and long-term review as part of the Physiologist led Sleep Service
2. Work closely with the ISU Senior Management Team, Consultant Respiratory Physicians and Physiology Service Manager to ensure respiratory diagnostics are delivered in a cost-efficient manner
3. Oversee maintenance and calibration of all Respiratory Physiology equipment and devices
4. Represent the service at management meetings and clinical group meetings in the absence of the Lead Respiratory Physiologist, and when required, regional matters
If you are joining us through the Band 6 Respiratory Physiologist developmental pathway, you will:
1. Assist senior Physiologists with more complex tests- CPET, bronchial challenge testing and Hypoxic challenge testing
2. Coordinate CPAP set-up, follow up and troubleshooting under the guidance of Senior Respiratory Physiologists
3. Accurately maintain equipment databases for the nebuliser loan service and sleep service.
4. Maintain and calibrate Respiratory Physiology equipment and devices
5. Assist with development of Junior Physiologists and Apprentice Physiologists
About us

We currently undertake approximately 3000 diagnostic tests per annum. Since the Sleep Service became physiologist led in 2016, approximately 1700 new patients have been seen in clinic and we have over 2200 patients with home CPAP in the community.

To be eligible for the Band 6 Physiologists developmental pathway, you will need to be working towards the Band 7 essential qualifications and training criteria as specified on the attached person specification.
Upon appointment as the Band 6, you will be supported through a training and development plan with the goal to become a fully independent Band 7 Physiologist in our Sleep Service.
