Associate Director of Pharmacy - Aseptic Cancer Services

Due to retirement, we have a fantastic opportunity to join our Pharmacy team to lead our aseptics cancer service.
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is a leading healthcare provider and one of the largest Trusts in the country. We provide a number of specialty services at a regional and national level, including genomic therapy and tertiary cancer services such as CAR-T cells. The Pharmacy department has large well-established clinical teams, working in some areas to a consultant level.
You will lead a team of over 50 highly motivated pharmacy staff, passionate about technical services providing the best care for our patients within this iQAAPs low-risk rated unit. As an Associate Director of Pharmacy, you will be part of the Pharmacy Leadership Team helping to shape and take forwards our strategic agenda for Medicines Optimisation and advanced clinical practice. The role is based in the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, and you will be the accountable pharmacist for our Section 10 unit producing chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition, reporting to the Director of Pharmacy for UHBW.
Main duties of the job
* You will be responsible for the leadership, operational management and strategic development of cancer aseptic pharmacy services across UHBW.
* Working in collaboration with the Associate Director of Pharmacy – Cancer Clinical Services to provide direction and management of UHBW cancer pharmacy Services.
* Support the timely implementation of NICE Technology Appraisals and ensure procurement of medicines is adopting the most cost-effective approach aligning to NHSE Contracts and Standardisation.

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Post graduate qualification in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance or equivalent relevant experience
* Eligible to be named as Accountable Pharmacist as defined by the Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services: Standards Handbook (QAAPS)
* Post graduate leadership or management qualification or equivalent relevant
Knowledge and Experience
* Expert knowledge and application of pharmacy professional standards, Good Manufacturing Practice, and current standards relating to the aseptic preparation and supply of medicinal products under Section 10 exemption, including clinical trials
* Extensive operational experience in pharmacy technical services particularly aseptically prepared products including Parenteral Nutrition and cytotoxics, including clinical trials
* Experience of working with senior pharmacy staff, managers, medical and nursing staff
* Experience of successfully identifying, planning, implementing change and service developments
* In-depth knowledge of current key issues pertaining to NHS aseptics and cancer pharmacy services, including a sound understanding of NHS structure and systems
* Experience of training, developing and motivating staff
* Experience in implementing and qualifying automation and equipment into a technical services unit
* Direct experience in managing an NHS hospital pharmacy technical services department
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent communication skills (written, listening and oral) to ensure effective communication with individuals and groups, including those where the information is complex or there are barriers to understanding
* Excellent people management and interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen and make appropriate decisions, balancing the complexities of staff wellbeing, equity and the best interests of the service and patients
* Ability to plan personal workload, departmental workload and complex staff rotas
* Skills and ability to lead on aseptic services internal and external audit and/or inspections
* Ability to identify, assess and manage risks appropriately
* Able to change into appropriate cleanroom clothing and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
* Good IT skills - ability to accurately build and produce documentation using Microsoft Office and other relevant specialist software
* Skills in the planning and delivery of training in technical services
