Locum Maxillofacial Consultant in Head and Neck Surgery

Applications are invited for the above post to join our Maxillofacial team. The successful candidate will join the existing team of 7 Consultants (3 head and neck consultants).

We are at the forefront of many research programmes and new surgical procedures including the research into diabetes, genetics, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and the keyhole heart valve surgery. Due to working closely with local universities we play a vital role in teaching the next generation of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities:
* Participate in microvascular on-call rotas at LRI
* Oncology and reconstruction
* Supervise and train junior medical staff/dental staff
* Clinical sessions as laid out in the job plan
* Teaching, research, audit and administration
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients
* Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients
* Promote new ways of working and co-ordinate care for patients in the community
* Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences
* Involve in appraising and assessing juniors
* Proactively develop the service
* Participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
Job responsibilities
This is a replacement post, to join the existing four Maxillofacial Surgery consultants. The post holder will take part in the microvascular on-call rota as well as working within their specialist area in the management of oncology and reconstruction.
The successful applicant will be expected to develop their special interest in the management of oncology with reconstruction and to work closely with the established oncology and reconstruction team. The successful candidate will be an established consultant or a Specialist Registrar eligible for CCST or within six months of CCST prior to interview for this post. A fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology is desirable but not necessarily essential.
The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
* Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department
* Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences
* Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department
* Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff
* Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties
* Participating in medical audit and the Trusts Clinical Governance processes
* In line with GMC Good Medical Practice, ensure all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard
* Respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers
* Participate in teaching and training of junior staff
* Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate
* Full administrative and secretarial support will be provided
* Office space will be provided
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC and GDC registration
* MB BS or Equivalent
* Current ATLS certificate
* MRCP/MRCS or equivalent
Clinical skills
* Fully trained in the field of Maxillofacial Surgery
* Trained in Head & Neck Surgery
Management
* Experience in leading teams
* Ability to work effectively as part of MDT and supervise juniors
