General Practitioner Salaried or Partner
We would like to recruit a salaried GP or a GP Partner to work four sessions a week to join us in April 2025.
Norton Brook Medical Centre is a long-established, friendly and forward-thinking practice serving the local communities of Kingsbridge and the surrounding area. Due to a once in a lifetime opportunity for one of our GP colleagues, we are now seeking a similarly dedicated, progressive and motivated GP to join our clinical team.
We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality patient care with a strong emphasis on continuity. Our long-standing team of dedicated clinicians and wider practice staff have a supportive team ethic. We also have a strong focus on continued improvement and learning as well as a commitment to the training of future doctors and GPs.
Joining the Norton Brook team provides the opportunity to further your career in a stunning coastal location in the South Hams. You would enjoy working across an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the opportunity for creating an excellent work/life balance.
What we offer:
* Indemnity under MDDUS group Scheme
* 6 weeks annual leave (pro rata to sessions worked)
* Opportunity for excellent work/life balance in a stunning coastal location
* Friendly, collegiate working environment
* Well established and supportive team
* Working in alignment with the NHSE General Practice Model and BMA guidance for safe working in practice
Main duties of the job
The post is a permanent role for a GP. The specific days, sessions and working hours are negotiable but would be on regular days of the week. There could be potential future opportunity for more weekly sessions, or to incorporate the role into a portfolio career.
Our GPs rotate between being a triage GP managing all on the day demand through SystmConnect, our total triage system, and having planned routine surgeries with a mix of pre-booked, face-to-face or phone appointments. Our triage system provides a flexible approach for us to ensure our appointment capacity appropriately meets our demand and that we can work within safe and acceptable limits. Our GPs also provide ward-round medical cover for South Hams Community Hospital which is next door to the practice. We encourage continuity in patient care and maintain personal lists where possible.
Norton Brook Medical Centre is part of South Hams PCN and the triage and referral systems include appointments with shared ARRS roles including a Paramedic, First Contact Physiotherapist, Pharmacists, Mental Health Practitioners and Social Prescribers.
About us
Our GP Partners and Practice Manager have active roles in South Hams PCN and LMC subcommittees.
Our GPs have a strong interest in medical education and the practice hosts GPSTs, F2 doctors and medical students, which provides for a stimulating and sociable work environment.
Our GPs and Managers are a committed, friendly and approachable team and share a passion for the outdoors, be it land or sea as well as fondness for a variety of four-legged friends! We have a welcoming and stable team of administration support staff, two Nurse Prescribers, a Nurse Associate and three HCAs/Phlebotomists. All clinical staff share a protected daily morning coffee break.
Due to our small-town location and proximity to the South Hams Hospital, we enjoy close working relationships with community-based staff.
Norton Brook has a purpose-built extremely comfortable building with ample free parking and a lovely sunny setting. Our patients are a mixed rural/small town population with approximately one hundred patients who are resident in care homes.
We enjoy beautiful surrounding countryside, a great proximity to the Dartmoor National Park, a stunning coastline and lovely sandy beaches.
Job responsibilities
You will be part of a wider team that promotes, prevents and offers treatment. You will care for people with chronic illness and long-term conditions, aiming to keep them well and in their own homes.
A typical day in the practice normally starts at around 8am when you will check paperwork before seeing patients. You will spend time with a mix of patients with a variety of health needs until late morning, either face-to-face or through a phone consultation.
After morning appointments, you will generally catch up on paperwork, make any phone calls and you may visit patients in their homes or care homes. Once visits are complete, you will start your afternoon surgery, from 2pm until 6.00pm. You will also provide evening appointments as part of our extended access rota.
On a rotational basis, you will also act as our triage GP using SystmConnect working with our triage admin and wider practice team. Hospital ward rounds at our local nurse-led rehabilitation hospital will also be required on a rotational basis.
You will also be involved in educational supervision of medical students, foundation year doctors and GP trainees as well as attending practice meetings, morning coffee break and whole practice training events.
