About the role:
Wootton Club seeks to fulfil the role of Club Steward/Stewardess, which includes managing the day-to-day running of Wooton Club, supporting the Wooton Club Committee to whom they report and are accountable, and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
The steward/Stewardess will ensure the smooth planning, preparation, and delivery of running the thriving bar and kitchen efficiently and in a friendly manner.
The Steward/Stewardess will maintain Wootton Club's values and reputation by providing a great experience by achieving excellent standards in hospitality and cleanliness, creating a welcoming atmosphere, and offering value for money for its members while supporting the local community.
The position of Club Steward/Stewardess (referred to as Steward hereon in) requires a person who is committed to Wootton Club's success. The role holders must work to ensure success regularly.
They ensure that bar services are available to our members every day, all year round, in accordance with opening hours as agreed with the Wootton Club Committee. This includes weekends, bank holidays, and public holidays, including Christmas.
The Steward will contribute ideas to promote sales and the local community's interest in association with the Wootton Club Committee.
The Steward will be responsible for staff management, hiring, and discipline, as well as training, monitoring, and coaching performance.
The successful applicant will be driven by a strong desire to succeed, be always personable and courteous with customers, demonstrate pragmatism and creativity to the Wootton Club Committee, and strongly desire to support the local community.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide front-of-house duties and represent Wootton Club to our members in a personable, friendly, and professional manner. The role holders are encouraged to affably engage with members as appropriate and provide an enjoyable experience for customers of Wootton Club.
* Manage staff, ensuring that suitable cover is provided to meet demand in both bar and kitchen all year round.
* Manage the day-to-day running of the club, which includes (but is not limited to) stock taking and ordering, organising the cellar, coordinating with the payment card and EPOS vendors, liaising with Wootton Clubs elected breweries, overseeing stock deliveries, managing stock levels using the EPOS system, routinely purchasing stock from local wholesalers, maintenance issues, and escalating to the Club Committee.
* Sell hot food to customers from the kitchen. The club committee agreed upon the menu, prices, and opening times.
* Provide food/buffet for member events (i.e., birthdays, wakes, christenings etc.).
* Ensure that the clubhouse is kept clean throughout opening hours.
* To ensure the kitchen maintains high standards to comply with food hygiene regulations and ensure the club obtains relevant certifications.
* Collaborate with the Club Committee on functions involving event management duties and coordinating with third parties.
* Responsible for reporting to the Club Committee with brewery updates, member issues/feedback and event progress/planning. Reporting is done both ad hoc and formally once a month via a Club Committee meeting.
* Ensure that those using Wootton Club facilities are valid members and take new memberships/renewals via the Wootton Club EPOS system.
* To manage a first aid incident in an emergency.
* Provide fire-warden responsibility at the premises.
* Responsible for the Club's Health and Safety, ensuring that the guidelines are up to date and adhered to.
* Ensuring the till is cashed up at the end of every day, with takings locked in the safe and a cash float kept for the next shift.
* Challenge anyone you feel is under 18, using your authority as Club Steward, to refuse service in these situations if an ID is not submitted.
Essential Application Criteria
* Before commencing the role, the stewards must hold or be prepared to apply for and acquire a Personal License for alcohol sales.
* Before commencing the role, the steward must hold or be prepared to apply for and acquire a Food Hygiene Level 2 (or higher) certificate.
* Experience working in the hospitality trade in a senior/managerial capacity.
* Experience in managing and motivating a team.
* Be friendly, personable, and generous with all customers and key stakeholders (internally and externally).
* Be pragmatic with solid planning skills.
* Provide simple DIY / maintenance skills to help with general clubhouse upkeep.
* Must be physically fit to exert moderate physical effort for short periods (e.g., moving beer barrels, climbing step ladders for simple maintenance).
* To have a first aid qualification (or be willing to undertake one) and a defibrillation course within the first three months of being in post (subject to availability).
* The position of Steward is the role holder's only job.
* Have previously managed a social club/pub with a kitchen or restaurant.
Desirable Application Criteria
Experience in using and configuring EPOS systems.
Proven history of marketing and social media management for business.
Event management experience.
Has held a five-star food hygiene rating in a commercial kitchen.
Have a strong network/access to potential staff to cater to larger events and peak business periods and provide holiday cover where required to ensure expected bar and kitchen service delivery standards are always maintained.
Please note that the role is 30 hours per week.
