We are excited to offer a Higher Assistant Psychologist post within the Memory Assessment Service at Alexander House in Knaresborough. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the clinical work of psychologists within the service, including administering standardised assessments, scoring and interpreting test data, and other duties that directly impact patient care. The post holder will be well supported by our friendly team and given regular clinical supervision from a qualified clinical psychologist, with support for their development goals, such as further clinical training.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will thrive amongst the multi-disciplinary team of professionals to assess, plan, and provide patient care. You will work within a team of Registered Mental Health Nurses, Support Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and wider partner agencies including primary care services, social care, and voluntary sector agencies.

Job responsibilities

There will also be a requirement to provide short-term interventions one-on-one and in a group setting to patients who are in receipt of Home-Based Treatment as an alternative to hospital admission.

Applicants must ensure that prior to applying they have agreement from their current line manager that they can be released on a secondment basis. In the event that permanent funding is secured for this post, the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in psychology
* Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
* Numeracy, Literacy, and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
* Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, youth work, work with offenders, and/or research design and analysis
Experience
* Experience working as a psychology assistant (or equivalent)
* Experience working with people with mental ill health or learning disabilities (paid or voluntary)
* Previous involvement in clinical audit, research, or service evaluation
* Experience using statistical software packages e.g. SPSS
* Experience of using psychometric assessments
Knowledge
* An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities
* Understanding of confidentiality
* An understanding of the application of psychology to health care
* Knowledge of the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct
Skills
* Ability to relate therapeutically to the needs of clients and in a way that addresses psychological resistance
* Ability to work collaboratively with members of the MDT to provide an effective service
* Utilise psychometric tests competently
* Statistical analysis
* Ability to lead a therapy group session (within agreed timescale)
* Plan and organise effectively to meet required timescales
* Use approved breakaway techniques
