JOB TITLE: Seasonal Assistant Boatperson WEEKLY PAY: £464.61 gross per 37-hour week (pro rata) REPORTS TO: Lough Erne Warden LOCATION: Portora, Enniskillen This role will involve weekend working & on public holidays as part of the conditioned hours SUMMARY OF ROLE A temporary seasonal assistant boat person is required for the summer season to augment Inspectorate patrol staff in harbour and event monitoring duties in accordance with the navigation byelaws.The post holder will also be required to crew and operate patrol vessels and give a quality customer orientated service, outside of normal working hours, to the boating customer and other navigation users. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To assist Inspectorate staff in patrolling, monitoring, and recording all activities, both on and off the navigation, within the framework of the navigation byelaws To deliver a quality customer service to waterway users and the general public To maintain accurate and legible records of any contraventions of the byelaws To undertake basic administrative procedures associated with the tasks assigned. To maintain in a serviceable and well-presented condition, and ensure the safe operation of, assigned Waterways Ireland vehicles and patrol craft in accordance with Waterways Ireland procedures. To liaise and cooperate with staff from other Waterways Ireland Divisions Comply with and actively promote Waterways Ireland policies and procedures on all aspects of equality. Complete all training as required by Waterways Ireland within specified timeframes. PERSON SPECIFICATION Candidates must be able to demonstrate that they meet the eligibility and essential criteria in their application and at interview. Desirable criteria may be used as necessary in the selection process. Eligibility Criteria: A recognised qualification in powerboat handling i.e., ISA / RYA National Powerboat Certificate Level 2, or equivalent. A valid driving licence. Essential Criteria: Knowledge of the Erne Navigation Bye Laws Knowledge & experience of the key Health and Safety issues to be considered while working in a water-based environment. The ability to deliver a quality customer service. Good Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Desirable Criteria: Knowledge/experience of operating and maintaining small powerboats. Flexibility to adapt to changeable work patterns. Categories B or C1E on driving licence. Short-listing Process A short-list of candidates for interviews will be prepared on the basis of the information contained in the application. It is essential that all applicants demonstrate on their application how, and the extent to which, they satisfy each of the Eligibility, Essential & Desirable Criteria. Only those candidates who meet the Eligibility Criteria will proceed to the formal short-listing process. The candidates who meet the Eligibility Criteria will then have the information contained in their application assessed against the Essential & Desirable Criteria.
