ABOUT US University Arms is a 192-bedroom design-led Hotel situated in the heart of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Overlooking Parker’s Piece is the Hotel’s quintessentially British Restaurant and Bar, Parker’s Tavern, Library Lounge, and beautiful wood-panelled Ballroom. Opened in 1834 as a Coaching Inn, University Arms is Cambridge’s oldest Hotel. For 180 years the Hotel was added to, updated, and modernised in line with the age, however, it was the reopening in 2018 after a four-year £80m full renovation that really positioned the Hotel. It is now Cambridges ‘go to’ destination, alluring visitors with the promise of a sense of modern luxury. THE ROLE As the Restaurant and Bar Manager, you will support the Bar and Restaurant General Manager in overseeing the daily operations of our restaurant and bar, ensuring a seamless experience for our guests. You will lead and inspire a team, manage budgets, maintain high standards, and contribute to the strategic growth of the business. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the restaurant and bar. Recruit, train, and manage a motivated and professional team. Ensure exceptional service delivery and guest satisfaction. Manage inventory and stock levels Monitor and maintain compliance with health and safety regulations. Collobrate with the Restaurant & Bar General Manager to create and manage budgets, including cost control and profitability. Analyse performance metrics and implement strategies for continuous improvement. Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and feedback effectively. Responsible for all departmental administration in absence of Bar & Restaurant Manager Deputise for Bar & Restaurant Manager in their absence Assist the Bar & Restaurant Manager with compiling the staff rota 4 weeks in advance to meet the needs of the business, whilst working within budgetary parameters Conduct performance/probation evaluations and provide regular feedback to Team Members, recognising and addressing areas for improvement. Holding return to work chats and manaing sickness levels alongside the Bar & Restaurant General Manager. Adhere to financial targets and budgets, optimising costs and expenses while maintaining high service standards. Stay updated on industry trends, customer preferences, and competitors, making recommendations to improve the restaurant's performance and guest experience. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN YOU Proven experience as a Restaurant & Bar Manager or Assistant Manager. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. A passion for hospitality and customer service excellence. Financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Knowledge of industry trends and best practices. Relevant qualifications in hospitality management (preferred). Proficient in using restaurant management software and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
