This post is based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site, but successful candidates are also expected to provide cover as required at the County Hospital in Stafford. You must have full HCPC registration for appointment as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist with at least 2 years post registration experience with an appropriate BSc in Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent) and also possess a IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology/Transfusion or equivalent. Main duties of the job To undertake analysis of samples according to the departmental Standard Operating Procedures (including the requesting of tests, recording and reporting of results) using highly complex equipment. Use knowledge of the disease process and the clinical relevance and appropriateness of diagnostic tests requested. Therefore understands why certain tests (including the abbreviations and medical terminology) are requested in certain pathological situations. To participate in and advise on the routine workload, including complex and specialised techniques, using specialist knowledge and experience of practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. Checks all samples during processing for status & suitability. Perform and verify quality control samples (including checking quality control charts) to ensure accuracy and precision. Carry out corrective action to ensure all analyses are performing within defined parameters. Understands the use of statistical parameters for mean, XB and SD if required.
