The Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurse for maternity will be a highly specialised, autonomous practitioner with a vision for developing the service women with diabetes receive during their pregnancy journey. This will span from pre-conception diabetes counselling advice through to antenatal care and beyond into the immediate postnatal period, where required.
They will be a key member of the Diabetes in Pregnancy Service, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to maintain and develop the service.
Main duties of the job
The Diabetes Specialist Nurse within our Maternity team will provide specialist care for a caseload of patients requiring specialist diabetes input during pregnancy and immediately postpartum:
* Act as a source of expertise on Diabetes for women/birthing people, their families and staff, including the provision of education and training.
* Have a desire to develop the service further in new areas e.g. pre-conception care.
They will work without direct supervision but within the multidisciplinary team and comply with Trust policies and guidelines.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Registered Nurse
* Mentor preparation programme or equivalent teaching qualification
* Diabetic course or equivalent experience
* Evidence of professional and personal development to degree level
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant years post registration experience
* Experience specific to care of women and birthing people with diabetes
* Monitor and maintain excellent standards of patient care
* Able to identify, initiate and implement change
* Able to facilitate and participate in multidisciplinary audits
* Work and maintain good working relationships with a multidisciplinary team
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to work without supervision and direction within a changing and demanding environment
* Ability to provide and deliver effective education
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, motivate and encourage
* Effective role model, demonstrating JPUH values and behaviours
* Excellent standards of documentation and record keeping
