Job summary The opportunity has arisen to join the Infection prevention and control team as the Decontamination Officer. This post will provide expert advice in relation to decontamination matters across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) without supervision but under the management of the Head of Infection Prevention and Control Nurse (IPCN). As the Decontamination Officer, you would support the Head of IPCN to provide leadership and support for the development, implementation and review of decontamination practices, ensuring there are robust systems and processes in place across the Organisation to improve patient safety and deliver required outcomes. The successful candidate will provide direct input into all aspects of decontamination across CTMUHB., with support from the Head of IPCN, and lead on operational issues relating to decontamination of reusable medical devices/equipment. With support from the Head of IPCN, lead on the monitoring, maintenance and upgrade of the patient/client environment, working with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to discharge this requirement, including Authorised Persons (decontamination), Heads of Nursing, Estates colleagues, facilities staff and the AE(D). Develop and maintain close working relationships with the Infection Prevention and Control Team, and Decontamination Lead Doctor, critical service users and other staff to ensure the delivery of excellent standards of decontamination throughout the organisation. Main duties of the job Work with service users to develop business cases for projects relating to decontamination service improvements from design to delivery as agreed by the Head of IPCN. Be responsible for the coordinating effective management of decontamination of reusable medical devices in various departments and across all sites within CTMUHB. The need for well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written, verbal and electronic (formal and informal), is essential for this post. Lead on operational issues relating to decontamination of medical devices with support from Head of IPCN Receive and impart sensitive and highly complex information regarding decontamination issues on a regular basis to others within and outside of the Health Board, including NWSSP/SES and WG. Work Head of IPCN to ensure appropriate reports and complex advice is delivered in a timely manner through the appropriate Decontamination and IPC committees, highlighting risks to the organisation. Participate in and chair meetings as requested by Head of IPCN and develop a communication framework to cascade information as required to all relevant stakeholders. Participate in individual performance review process.
