As a member of the Service Delivery section of Digital Services, you will be responsible for the delivery of services for the Trust. Efficiency, good practice and a passion for every customer getting an excellent service must be a key driver. Being a figure in the Digital Services department, you must be able to adapt yourself to the different services that you participate in. Maintain service for customers and continually improve that service. A proactive worker thinking outside the box to maintain or reinstate service for customers driving efficiency.
Main duties of the job
* Ensure that the Database Service meets SLA performance.
* Abide by trust policies and procedures.
* Be responsible for working with line managers to continually improve the Database estate and application environments to achieve the Service levels in place.
* Be a proactive challenger and continually review your services and the delivery to customers.
* Keep up to date with good practice with application developments and enhancements in database technologies.
* Maintain compliance for the trust in relation to Software licence compliance.
* Drive customer excellence through the adoption of continuous improvement.
* Maintain and document services in accordance with Trust systems writing policies and procedures for staff and services.
* Support team members as required for personal development and knowledge transfer.
* Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to production systems.
* Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
* Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
* Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
* Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities (potentially after hours).
* Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical cross-training to other peers and team members.
* Understand Azure SQL environments and services.
* An understanding of ITIL.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience.
Skills and Knowledge
* Experience of implementation of new technologies in both Applications and Databases, including cloud technologies such as Azure.
* Experience and in-depth knowledge of Windows SQL server 2005-2019 database technologies, database design, performance tuning, optimisation, backup and upgrading, Reporting and analysis services.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and productivity suites.
* Customer focused with good verbal communication skills.
* Good time management.
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team to SLA deadlines.
* Ability to plan, agree, schedule, document and implement changes using a structured change control process.
* The ability to gather and interpret data.
* Logical, methodical, pro-active and enthusiastic in working practices.
* The ability to translate technical jargon for a customer to understand.
* Experience to MCDBA level.
* Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
* Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
* Knowledge of High Availability (HA) options for SQL Server, ideally Availability Groups.
* Experience and understanding of the following languages: .net, php, html 5, CSS, Java.
* Experience of Oracle and other RDBMS products.
* Ability to create networks with peers and managers across the trust.
* Excellent standard of written English.
* ITIL Foundation Version 3 or equivalent.
* Ability to organize and plan work independently.
* Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
