As a Technical / Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design and technical aspects of ICP and EPC projects across the UK. This role will include leading design and engineering teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining the quality and integrity of technical documentation. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between engineering, project management, and client stakeholders, guaranteeing that design and technical objectives align with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the technical and design aspects of ICP and EPC projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and industry standards.
2. Supervise a multidisciplinary design team, providing technical guidance and support for project delivery across the UK.
3. Develop and review design documentation, including specifications, schematics, plans, and reports, to ensure accuracy and quality.
4. Manage the technical interface with clients and stakeholders, addressing design queries and concerns, and providing expert advice.
5. Conduct regular project reviews to identify and mitigate technical risks and ensure project objectives are met.
6. Oversee compliance with regulatory and industry standards, including G99/G100, ENA, DNO, and relevant Health & Safety requirements.
7. Collaborate closely with the project management team, contributing to project planning, resource allocation, and cost management.
8. Participate in tendering and proposal processes by providing technical input, scope development, and estimation for new projects.
9. Ensure continuous improvement of design processes, implementing best practices and industry advancements.
10. Provide mentorship and development opportunities for junior engineers and design staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
Key Qualifications and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. Master’s degree or Chartered Engineer status is an advantage.
2. 5+ years of experience in a technical/design management role, preferably within the ICP or EPC sectors.
3. Demonstrated experience with the design, management, and delivery of high-voltage electrical connections, substations, and associated infrastructure.
4. Strong knowledge of UK regulatory and industry standards for electrical connections (G99, G100, ENA, and DNO requirements).
5. Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Power Systems Analysis tools) and experience with design documentation management.
6. Proven track record of leading design teams and collaborating with project management and client stakeholders.
7. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
8. Experience with hybrid working environments and the flexibility to travel for project site visits when required.
9. Knowledge of renewable energy systems, battery storage, and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.
10. Project Management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) is advantageous.
11. Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes and tools.
