Due to continued expansion and company growth, an excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to work as part of the Research & Development Department based in Leeds, reporting to the Principal Electrical Engineer. It involves working closely with a team of mechanical, controls, manufacturing, and quality engineers to design and develop new standard HVAC products while maintaining the existing product portfolio.
The Role
The role consists of working with the Product Development teams to develop new electrical product designs in accordance with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and relevant SOM guidelines from concept through to full product launch. You will aid the Principal Electrical Engineer & Lead Mechanical Engineers where necessary and as a team will be responsible for creating design briefs for companywide approval, hitting cost targets, designing electrical infrastructure of products with customer, manufacturing, and assembly in mind to allow labour targets, project timescales, technical features, training, and all critical deliverables to be met.
You will be required to work closely with the Product Development Controls team to bring the electrical and controls design to fruition and support changes to the current portfolio.
Supplier technology plays an important part of new designs so supplier and purchasing interaction will be required. Preferred suppliers will be used wherever possible in a manner that ensures high-quality products are available using the most efficient manufacturing processes.
Testing of the products will be required so internal and external test houses will be utilized for the verification of compliance for UKCA and CE marking such as EMC and machinery electrical safety standards.
Job Requirements:
1. Responsible for improving the electrical aspects of product innovation and customer focus of Airedale standard products.
2. Assist in formulating unit electrical design and controls operation briefs for approval.
3. Ensure electrical aspects of new components are properly tested prior to introduction.
4. Oversee electrical build, wiring best practice, test, and approval of prototypes.
5. To ensure appropriate standards and approvals and testing is carried out (i.e. EMC testing).
6. To conduct product introduction support and training.
7. To ensure the appropriate design modifications are released informing all concerned of engineering changes.
8. Carry out electrical design on a range of HVAC systems, for both new and existing ranges, ensuring safe operation and compliance with relevant legislation.
9. Selection/sizing of appropriate electrical components, motors, cabling, etc. using engineering design calculations and best practice.
10. Communicate internally at all levels to provide technical advice or suggestions for improvement to design.
11. Communicate with internal customers to provide product technical advice/support.
12. Attend site meetings and trade shows where required.
13. Build standard electrical CAD drawing generators, symbol libraries, and circuits using AutoCAD software.
14. Produce accurate parts lists.
15. Design control panel layouts.
16. Design terminal lists and layouts.
17. Assist & liaise with mechanical and controls engineers.
Desirable Skills & Experience
1. Hold a technical degree and have 3+ years experience with electrical design, preferably within the HVAC or Machine design sector, although all experience will be considered.
2. Must be able to innovate and be able to support ideas through to implementation.
3. Knowledge of UKCA and CE marking process.
4. Knowledge/understanding of PLC controllers.
5. Experience with both 3 phase power circuits & low voltage control circuits.
6. Experience with HVAC application and knowledge of cooling and heating systems (Not essential).
7. Knowledge and awareness of current legislation affecting electrical design and testing.
8. Ability to work pro-actively, using own initiative.
9. Be able to produce high quality accurate information with good attention to detail.

3. Solid Edge (3D Modelling)
