Job summary Physician's Assistant (Band 4) Maternity Services This is an innovative role within our department. The post aims to release medical and midwifery staff to complete specialist tasks leaving the more general tasks to competent assistants. You can expect to be doing administrative and clinical tasks including phlebotomy and cannulation and you will need to be able to manage your own working day with minimal supervision. You will mainly be based on 5 South but may be required to assist in any location within maternity clinical areas. The role is flexible in work pattern and will require an element of out of hours working. You will be a key member of the improvement team, using your knowledge and experience to improve patient pathways. For this reason, the position will require the ability to organise your time efficiently and prioritise effectively. You will have the opportunity to influence policies and procedures in the areas in which you work. You will take responsibility for the outstanding jobs list, using your own judgement and initiative to prioritise and ensure completion of the most important jobs. You will be supported by the consultant obstetrician on call and maternity matron in this area. You will use the Cerner Electronic Patient Record System (EPR) and other patient information systems in your daily work and will need to demonstrate IT literacy. You will need an awareness of the limits of your role and the boundaries within which you will be expected to work such that you do not exceed your level of competency inappropriately.
