The Oversight Board makes binding and independent decisions about the most challenging content issues on Facebook and Instagram. Members of the Board include Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Prime Minister of Denmark, Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Michael McConnell, Director of Stanford’s Constitutional Law Center, and many other diverse leaders and thinkers from around the world. The Board issued its first decisions in January 2021. The Oversight Board Administration is the team of full-time staff who support Board Members in carrying out their duties. The Role Joining the Oversight Board Administration is a chance to be part of an organization which is leading on some of the most prominent and challenging issues facing the tech industry and society. In this role, the post holder will support by delivering impactful media coverage and drive strategic stakeholder engagement in line with the OSB’s strategic priorities. The Content & Editorial Lead will drive development of written content essential for communicating the work and impact of the Board. You will report to the Head of Editorial, Digital & Content, based in London. A passionate storyteller, the postholder will have experience translating complex issues into accessible and engaging communications and content. The postholder will produce engaging content for multiple platforms that can accurately convey our work to the public, policymakers, civil society, researchers and other stakeholders – as well as internally to colleagues. The key responsibilities for the role include: Ensuring the Board’s announcements and decisions are clear and consistent, editing and summarizing key findings. Writing, editing and proofreading blog posts, reports, bulletins, newsletters, scripts and other updates. Contributing to thought leadership, including white papers and other content demonstrating the Board’s impact. Working in our CMS, preparing and uploading news and updating evergreen content. Co-ordinating the Board’s schedule of announcements/publications by liaising with content team and rest of the communications team. Fact-checking and proofreading other Comms products, including social, scripts, press and stakeholder emails. Assisting with other aspects of content and editorial support for the Administration, as required by the Head of Editorial, Digital and Content, including internal communications. Although much of this work will be proactive, at times you will also help support fast-moving reactive communications needs for the Oversight Board. Skills and Experience Excellent spoken and written communication skills, with proven experience of translating complex issues into accessible, accurate and engaging content for diverse audiences. Proven experience working with high-profile leaders on variety of written content and digital communications. Excellent attention to detail on matters of both style and substance, with a proven commitment to accuracy. Digital competence, with experience on social, websites and other digital platforms. Ability to operate in a fast-paced organization, managing competing projects, priorities and internal stakeholders simultaneously. Problem-solving and adaptable mindset. Awareness of global issues, especially at the intersection of technology, freedom of expression and human rights. Enthusiasm and interest in the role of the Oversight Board in global content moderation.
