The Role JOB SUMMARY: Oversees the overall administration of the attorney development functions in the London office, including management of attorney employee relations, performance evaluations, mentoring, onboarding and departures, and associate engagement programs. Works closely with office and practice group leadership in London as well as local HR team members and the attorney development global leadership in the New York office. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages the evaluation processes for associates and counsel. Includes managing the mid-year and year-end evaluation and review processes and coordinating individual training, coaching, or outplacement referrals, when appropriate. Participates in conversations with firm leadership regarding associate performance and utilization and works with partners toto communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance. Manages the annual salary and bonus review process for London Attorneys, working closely with the attorney development global team. Engages in strategic (i.e. long-range) planning with the Head of HR and the London office and practice group leadership team Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, top class service and improved employee engagement, in alignment with the firm's core values. Oversees the associate mentor program, including promoting the program, reviewing mentor assignments, monitoring participation and reporting. Manages the discipline, grievance and, where applicable, investigation process and procedure working in collaboration with the London Managing Partner. Manages attorney retention and engagement initiatives to meet the firm and office objectives and foster community. Plans and attends attorney development events and programming. Oversees incoming and lateral attorney orientation and monitors their integration into practices and the firm. Oversees all secondments and inter-office transfers, working closely with the firm’s international mobility team. Oversees attorney departure process, includes conducting exit interviews. Oversees administrative matters related to attorney benefits, family leave (maternity and paternity), flexible schedules, sickness and other leaves of absence, disability and reasonable adjustments. Works with Human Resources Manager in London and the global attorney development and benefits teams to administer benefits. Oversees attorney personnel record management to ensure databases are maintained accurately, includes monitoring attorney compliance with annual policy acknowledgements/mandatory online trainings/videos, etc. Oversees the visa and immigration tracking processes for the London office. Acts as a key contact for visa related queries and oversees the annual visa audit process. Serves as a confidential resource to attorneys, providing career guidance and support for their wellbeing and mental health. Works closely with the Senior Graduate Recruitment & Development manager to support trainee employee relation issues and the NQ handover process. Works closely with the AD Training Manager in London and the global attorney learning group to implement firm-wide curriculums at the local level, as well as identifying local training needs Daily interaction with partners, attorneys, secretaries and staff regarding attorney policies and procedures, expenses, billing time, etc. Prepares attorney development annual budget and reviews, monitors and approves related expenses throughout the year. Manages attorney development team in the London office, including selection, development, training, outlining annual objectives and evaluation of staff performance. Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations and long-range plans. Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures. Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services. Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others. Regular and reliable physical presence to work as part of a team and meet with attorneys. Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies, and procedures.
