Role
Responsible for supporting the Sustainability Manager in the development, implementation and management of the Environmental and Sustainability Strategy within Energy Networks in accordance with its Environmental and Sustainability business plans providing subject specific support to meet our ambitions for a net zero carbon business.
To maintain and develop Management Systems to support the Company’s goals of Environmental, Social and Economic sustainability.
What you’ll be doing
1. Supporting the Sustainability Manager and Energy Networks management team to support development and delivery of a sustainability strategy and plans as part of wider Business plans. Identifying slippage and gaps to the SPEN executive team and proposing remedial actions.
2. Build relationships with Sustainability Stakeholders and ensure their views are considered in the formulation of investment and operational plans.
3. Advise ENET on, and respond to, consultation on matters of carbon management relevant to SP Energy Networks.
4. Support the Sustainability Manager in developing greenhouse gas emissions reduction related sustainability goals for SPEN ensuring these are deliverable and meet the wider needs and expectations of stakeholders.
5. Support the Sustainability Manager in the development of a formal, long-term sustainability and environmental responsibility culture to better embed responsible business practice in wider Energy Networks business activities through close liaison with operational and investment managers as well as corporate functions to devise and deliver training, awareness and coaching to the management population.
6. Deliver change projects to embed sustainability (carbon) considerations in business processes and decision making and improve our performance and reputation.
7. Support the sustainability agenda across the organisation by delivering a comprehensive service to all external and internal stakeholders including leading and participating in working groups and communication of SPEN approach.
8. Lead standing and ad-hoc working groups on specific sustainability issues. This is likely to involve SP or Iberdrola wide working and potential to become subject matter expert on specific sustainability issues (carbon).
9. Contribute to a communications and awareness plan targeted at all SPEN staff and Contractors.
10. Provide technical expertise to support Directors and the Sustainability Manager. Researching issues and developments and translating these into proposals for meaningful plans and measures for the wider business.
11. Review and verify on Regulatory Reporting Returns prepared by the team prior to final approval by the Sustainability manager.
12. Coach and mentor District and Depot Managers on sustainability topics.
What you’ll bring
* Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline. Preferably with or working towards a post graduate qualification in sustainability, environmental or business management.
* Awareness of sustainability requirements for an electricity network operator.
* Demonstrable experience of working in a specialist team and delivering cross business activities.
* Demonstrable experience of liaising, negotiating and influencing at a senior level in business.
* In-depth knowledge developments in the sustainability agenda.
* Strong technical knowledge and experience in one or more relevant sustainability topics (sustainable design, planning policy, circular economy, carbon/energy, nature-based solutions, responsible sourcing).
* Training and coaching skills with the ability to communicate technical information in a concise way to a non-technical audience.
* Strong analytical and rigorous approach to data management.
Minimum Criteria
* Degree level qualification, preferably in an environmental discipline.
* Postgraduate qualification in environmental related discipline.
* Membership of IEMA or CEnv.
* Understanding of the utility environment.
