Internal applicants only - applications will close on Friday 24th January 2025 at 18.00 As an Extrusion Team Leader, you will take ownership of delivering key operational KPIs through effective team engagement and hands-on leadership. You will manage all aspects of production to achieve optimal performance while supporting, managing, coaching, and motivating Setters, Trainee Setters, Quality Inspectors, and Operators. Leading by example is crucial in this role. You will also champion and implement continuous improvement ideas from your team. RESPONSIBILITIES Team Supervision Oversee daily activities, ensuring a motivated team, efficient labour use, and effective break management to maintain production flow and meet targets. Actively participate in hands-on tasks, including break cover, to achieve results. Sim 1 Meetings: Lead engaging and informative meetings to motivate the team and encourage effectiveness Listen to feedback from your team and act on it, or explain why it is not appropriate to do so Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Ensure all team members work safely and comply with HSE policies and procedures. Encourage everyone to be aware and highlight potential hazards. Investigate root causes of incidents and near misses, reporting them according to company procedures. Ensure that the correct PPE is available, and used. Maintain a clean and safe workspace in accordance with 5S protocols. Ensure that the factory is safe and secure at the end of the week. Technical Support Provide technical assistance for machine and process setup, offering coaching and guidance to team members and Trainee Setters. Quality Management Responsible for ensuring that the checking of all first samples are completed on your shift. Carry out regular quality checks including observation and talking to your team. Raise any quality concerns as soon as you are aware. Even if this is not an escalation and you can manage within the team, communicate that there is an issue. Participate in problem-solving activities, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. Propose solutions and act on them as a team. Ensure that standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality visual aids are accurate, accessible, and consistently followed. Production Planning Collaborate with Production and Materials Planners to ensure real-time production aligns with the plan, adapting to business needs as required. Maintain accuracy in systems like MRP and InTouch for your area, including BOMs, routings, and production plans. People Management Ensure that the escalation of production and quality concerns is prompt and effective at all levels. Use of BambooHR to keep accurate records on attendance and complete performance assessments. Keep a record of overtime. Seek alternatives to overtime but when necessary encourage team participation. Manage team performance, attendance, and conduct in line with HR policies. Provide coaching to support the development and growth of team members. Maintenance Work closely with the Maintenance team using MaintainX to manage TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and reactive maintenance tasks. Align maintenance schedules with safety, production demands, and site KPIs. Reporting and Data Management Deliver daily production progress reports to the Materials & Production Planner and Site Leader including the end of shift email. Accurately report production data, including scrap and downtime, using systems like MRP Easy and InTouch. Continuous Improvement Drive ongoing improvements using Kaizen principles to reduce waste, optimise labour efficiency and maintain OEE. Propose solutions and act on them as a team. PERSON SPECIFIATION Experience : A strong manufacturing background with expertise in plastic extrusion processes is essential. Leadership : Determined to achieve goals through strong people leadership and teamwork. Communication : Able to convey instructions clearly and objectively, including during shift handovers. Lean Manufacturing : Knowledge of 5S, 8D, 5 Whys, SOPs, and Visual Management is advantageous, but a willingness to learn is essential. Attitude : A conscientious, hands-on leader committed to quality, efficiency, and team success. Innovation : Confident in suggesting and implementing process improvements and encouraging team input and ideas generation. Teamwork : A collaborative, supportive team player with strong coaching skills. Qualifications : An FLT licence is advantageous, though not essential, as training will be provided.
