Job Description:
GREAT COMMUNICATORS SPREAD ENTHUSIASM.
SHARE YOUR PASSION.
We believe in creating an environment where our placement students can learn and develop during their time with us and where they are given their own areas of responsibilities from the start. Our experts and mentors will treat you as part of the team from day one, encouraging you to bring your own ideas to the table and giving you the opportunity to show what you can do.
BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four-cylinder petrol engines, and precision machining key engine components, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week, with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles.
If you’re a bright, energetic and creative student seeking an exciting challenge for your placement year, we have an exceptional opportunity for you. We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate people to join the busy communications team based at our Hams Hall engine manufacturing plant (near Birmingham), working across communications and events.
Communication to our employees and key stakeholders is central to our success and this placement is a fantastic chance to develop your career in communications, working for the world’s leading premium automotive manufacturer.
What awaits you?
In this role, you will have your own tasks and projects as well as supporting the communications manager(s) in their daily work:
* Creating and pushing out engaging content to employees across a range of media channels such as the intranet, employee app, and digital signage.
* Supporting the communications manager and the wider UK communications team in generating plant information and story ideas to engage external stakeholders.
* Involvement in the planning, organisation, and execution of events and visits for various audiences.
* Leading initiatives with our house charity to create awareness and organise fundraising events.
* Contributing to the development of new initiatives and communications channels.
* Supporting the department with annual planning, communication measures for reporting, photo archiving, and general administrative tasks.
No two days will be the same, and although office-based, your placement will include time spent on the shop floor liaising with people at all levels within the factory. Flexibility with working hours and occasional travel to other BMW Group sites in the UK may be required.
To be considered for this role, you’ll need to be passionate about communicating and engaging with people, demonstrated through your interests and achievements. You must have excellent written and spoken English skills, the ability to communicate and build relationships at all levels, and a keen interest in current affairs. Comfort with IT software and content management systems is essential, along with basic photography and photo editing skills.
Qualifications & Skills:
* Studying towards a Bachelor's degree in Business, Media, Communications, Marketing, Events Management, English, Social Sciences, or a related field, on track to receive a 2:2 or above.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a passion for engaging with and building relationships with people.
* Flexibility with working hours and potential travel to support various projects and events (full driving licence required).
* Awareness and interest in current affairs with an eye for attractive stories.
* Basic photography and photo editing skills; further digital media skills would enhance your application.
* Ambition to learn about a range of IT software and content management systems.
* Resilience with excellent organisational skills and a proactive approach.
