A fantastic opportunity has come up for a full-time Pharmacist to work for Ramsay Health Care UK based primarily at the Berkshire Independent Hospital in Reading. We are committed to developing our staff and offer support to complete the post-graduate clinical diploma and independent prescribing courses where appropriate.
Main Duties of the Job
To provide an exemplary pharmacy service in accordance with current legislation, accepted professional and ethical standards and clinical requirements. To provide advice and support to consultants, other clinicians and patients ensuring the safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines. To advise the hospital and its departments on the safe management of medicines, ensuring compliance with current legislation and professional standards. To promote a multidisciplinary, patient-focused approach to the delivery of an efficient, high-quality healthcare service.
Job Responsibilities
* Participate in the clinical ward pharmacy service covering the inpatient wards and outpatients.
* Deliver a clinical pharmacy service to the defined clinical areas, including drug history taking, medication reconciliation, utilisation of patients' own drugs, self-medication schemes, discharge counselling, and medicines optimisation.
* Support and advise the ward on medication safe and secure storage and handling.
* Make appropriate referrals; ensure clear and effective communication of patients' pharmaceutical needs to other pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
* Provide prescription review and medicines-related advice to healthcare professionals at ward level in a range of acute specialties.
* Provide timely and accurate advice on prescribing issues and evidence-based prescribing.
* Identify and resolve prescribing-related problems to ensure the principles of clinical governance and the safe and effective use of medicines are followed.
* Provide medicines-related information to members of the multidisciplinary ward team, and specific advice on drug administration to nursing staff.
* Work at ward level and in the dispensary to ensure prescriptions are dispensed safely and effectively.
* Assist in the provision of Medicines Information services; provide timely and accurate advice and information to enquiries made by nursing, medical, and other healthcare staff.
* Work effectively as part of a team in a multidisciplinary and pharmacy environment.
* Achieve objectives agreed at the Personal Development Review to contribute effectively to the provision of pharmacy services.
* Improve clinical skills and expertise in orthopaedic, bariatric, and ophthalmic post-surgery recovery.
* Identify areas suitable for clinical audit and undertake audits to help rectify issues.
* Identify therapeutic areas of cost and service improvement.
* Assist in the training of junior pharmacy staff and other healthcare staff.
* Ensure regular updating by self-directed learning or attendance at beneficial courses.
* Maintain a CPD portfolio and participate in an organised development programme.
Qualifications
* Degree in Pharmacy.
* Member of GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council) with current registration.
* Willingness to undertake clinical training.
Experience
The post holder will be a member of the pharmacy team and will provide a clinical pharmacy service to the inpatient wards and outpatient department, promoting the safe, effective, economical use of medicines in patients.
