Job Description Fugro is now seeking a Supervising Geotechnical Engineer to join the Client Deliverables Department based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, United K ingdom. The Supervising Geotechnical Engineer will be to lead and/or supervises routine and non-routine offshore site investigations, performs standard engineering analyses, and prepares field, laboratory, soil parameters and engineering reports in accordance with company procedures, health and safety and quality policies, project specifications and industry standards. The Supervising Geotechnical Engineer will work with the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and Team Leaders in the professional development of team members. Whilst this role is predominantly office based, some travel and offshore site work will also be, typically 30 to 60 days per year working aboard a drillship, both in UK and foreign waters. Who you’ll be working with: This role will require you to work offshore and onshore with other engineers. You also need to work alongside colleagues from various departments (e.g. laboratory, project manager, quality, health and safety, commercial etc.). Here’s what a typical day would be like: Act as s ite manager and/or team leader on routine and non-routine offshore site investigation projects; Supervising a team of engineers, assistant engineers and engineering assistants; Providing technical solution s for laboratory tests, and testing management with the laboratory; Independently evaluating, characterising and developing soil parameters; Independently evaluating, selecting, performing and checking engineering analyses; Producing field, laboratory parameters and engineering reports; Assisting with continuing development of inter-company and client’s contacts; Recommending and implementing improvements in specific operational area; Helping to ensure that direct reports fulfil their own job descriptions and are given the assistance to achieve goals and development targets as set in appraisals. Who we’re looking for: Essential Undergraduate and/or postgraduate d egree in civil engineering, engineering geology or geology or related discipline, K nowledge of in situ and soil or rock data acquisition including soils and/or rock description and testing, and reporting; Good knowledge of geology and soil mechanics ; P roven experience of managing large geotechnical projects and detailed engineering analysis ; A ssociate membership of an appropriate professional body and preferably working towards professional chartered status ; Computer literate and intermediate ability of using spreadsheets and plotting software; Capable of generating a safe and quality-based culture within the offshore and onshore teams; Strong communicator (i.e. verbally and written) to deliver the results for internal and external clients; A very good team player and able to form working relationships with Clients and colleagues at all levels. Desirable Advanced k nowledge of soil and rock data sampling and data acquisition tools; Knowledge of soil and/or rock laboratory testing and foundation engineering issues.
